Vermeer, The golden age of Dutch art on display in Rome




    A Rome from 27 September 2012 to January 20 2013 the works of Vermeer Stables of the Quirinale. For the first time in Rome an exhibition on Johannes Vermeer, the greatest exponent of Dutch painting of early seventeenth century. The exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale includes a precious selection of works by Johannes Vermeer - very rare and distributed in museums all over the world, none in Italy - and approximately fifty works by Dutch artists of his time.

    In addition to the master's masterpieces, the exhibition displays works by Carel Fabritius, one of the most famous artists of the time, who died in the explosion of the powder keg that in 1654 destroyed a large part of the city of Delft, Pieter de Hooch and Emmanuel de Witte, together with artists celebrated at the time but less known to us today including Gerard ter Borch, Gerrit Dou, Nicolaes Maes, Gabriël Metsu, Frans van Mieris, Jacob Ochtervelt and Jan Steen and many others refined masters and surprising.
