In Vinci, discovering where Leonardo was born and the Museum

You all have this Leonardo da Vinci, but this Vinci, do you know where it is? The town is located in the province of Florence in the hilly area of Montalbano. From Florence it takes about 40 minutes by car, with public transport you have to change in Empoli. However, Vinci is a very pretty city, all gathered around a castle, that of the Conti Guidi, the medieval lords of the area. The historic center is tiny, the castle tower rises above everything and around it there are olive groves and Tuscan landscape as far as the eye can see, very suggestive.

La casa where Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452 is located in Anchiano not far from Vinci and you can visit it - it's a museum. To reach it from Vinci you have to take a stretch of country road by car or a nice footpath called "green" all among the olive trees. The house was restored a few years ago and has the most private aspect of the genius of Vinci. It is open from 10.00 to 19.00 in the summer, every day and the entrance costs only 2 euros.

In Vinci, on the other hand, right inside the Rocca dei Guidi and in the nearby Palazzina Uzielli is the Leonardian Museum. It is interesting for the scientific aspect, in fact, all the machines he designed were built with absolute precision and under the guidance of experts based on Leonardo's drawings, from the most practical to the strangest and most futuristic: the bicycle, the submarine, the flying machine, the war machines. And then studies on optics, hydraulics, geometry, all the numerous fields in which Leonardo measured himself.

The museum offers guided tours for children and families, which are very useful for fully understanding Leonardo's genius.

Great anticipation is reserved for the opening of the new area of the Museum dedicated to anatomical studies, scheduled for Saturday October 22, 2016: the new exhibition area will be open to the public, accompanied by a series of educational activities and thematic visits, to rediscover the great interest that led Leonardo to discover the human body.

The ticket for the Leonardino Museum costs 11 euros (full price), reduced (8 euros) and includes a visit to the museum and Leonardo's birthplace.
