Antonello da Messina at Mart

    Antonello da Messina at Mart

The brand new exhibition dedicated to Antonello da Messina at the Mart, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto.

La show, curated by Ferdinando Bologna and Federico De Melis, wants to show this great artist of the Mediterranean Renaissance in all its glory. Loans from many national and international museums will characterize this event. And I mean by realities like Galleria Borghese in Rome, the National Gallery in London and the Met in New York.

The mastery of Sicilian painter it can thus be observed in all its facets and also in the similarities and differences with other contemporary artists. Antonello da Messina in fact underwent very different influences, from Spain, to Flanders to Provence, to the closest Italian realities, to also become an important portrait painter with clear inspirations drawn from Flemish art. In fact, this fifteenth-century artist was one of the first to modify the version of the portrait, taking it from the classic profile to the three-quarter-length mode.

One of the ambitions of the exhibition is to offer the visitor an immersion in the painter's historical context, all through his deep introspective gaze capable of grasping the essence and the most psychological nuances of being.

So portrait, inspection but also points of encounter and clash between Italian and Flemish civilizations, these are the main themes. the exhibition is presented by Mart in collaboration with Electa publishing house.

The Mart is located in Corso Bettini 23 in Rovereto (TN) and, as regards the tickets, the cost is € 13 for the whole, € 9 reduced (for over 65 years, affiliated, groups and young people between 19 and 26 years), € 3,5 for school groups and from 7 to 18 years.
