Le Castella in Calabria, a destination suitable all year round

Calabria and its beautiful places. Among these there is certainly Le Castella, a hamlet of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, here's what to see and where to go on holiday practically all year round thanks to its climate.

Le Castella is a small fraction of Capo Rizzuto Island, in the Crotone area. It is one of the real pearls of the Mediterranean, its places convey how much this land has been a protagonist in history.

The first and most subsequent image of this so characteristic place is certainly the terrace overlooking the Fortress, a marvelous one Aragonese Castle located on an islet in the protected marine reserve of Isola Capo Rizzuto, in front of the town center. The Castle has been almost entirely restored and it is possible to visit it (among other things, the cost of the entrance ticket is really negligible, 3 euros).

Il sea is definitely the other flagship. By deciding to visit our wonderful south, one also makes some expectations about the sea; expectations absolutely fulfilled by crystal clear water and a wonderful beach. Protected marine reserve within which it is possible to do various activities and excursions both in groups and privately. I am not very experienced in diving but from what I have been able to understand, it is a place particularly suitable for this sport thanks to the multitude of marine species present.
I spent the holiday in an apartment in Toucan village, a tourist village, in fact, very well equipped that gives the possibility to be satisfied both from the point of view of relaxation and that of entertainment, with tennis courts, equipped beaches and swimming pools; however, it should be noted that by booking in advance and staying in the apartment you have the opportunity to save a lot on the price of the holiday.

In this maritime area i resorts they are very present, almost more than hotels, from what I have been able to ascertain. Unfortunately or fortunately these places are not totally touristy, so maybe if you want to have an aperitif or go to the disco, it would be better to have a car. The positive aspect of all this is that what you see is genuine, there is little or nothing built for tourists, and what little there is, still seems much more indigenous than many other places. As a food lover I could only pay great attention to the many shops that sell typical Calabrian products, in which I would have absolutely bought everything.

Wandering around Le Castella you cannot fail to notice the small shops who trade colorful pottery with maritime themes typical of southern Italy and obviously souvenirs. For a breakfast and consequently an awakening with all the trimmings the best place to go is al bar il Pescatore overlooking the castle, where I tasted cold coffee with grenadine for the first time.

For a simple, genuine and above all typical (definitely low cost) lunch or dinner, I would recommend the inn The Lampara, family-run and very 'homely', will make you feel almost like your grandmother, located in a central street of Le Castella. Here you can taste the typical fried panzerotti, even spicy, a real delight, the pizza, the wonderful savory pies and Calabrian sweets with raisins and almonds, exceptional.
