Historic cafes and patisseries in Budapest

Gerbeaud is one of the historic cafes in Budapest that I recommend you try in the Hungarian city, but there is not only this. There are many typical cakes of the city that you cannot miss during a holiday in Budapest.

During a trip to Budapest it is a must to stop in one confectionery or in one of the historic cafes. The Hungarian capital is famous for these places where even today you can breathe a retro atmosphere and where you can taste the best cakes of the national tradition.

I have personally tried Gerbeaud, one of the most famous of these clubs, elegant and very central, is located in Vörösmarty tér (a stone's throw from Fruccola), the proposals are really many, especially when it comes to desserts. Try the famous Dobos Torte, a sort of skyscraper of sponge cake and chocolate and butter cream, topped with a layer of caramel. Unfortunately i prices are certainly not low but us with two slices of Dobos and a bottle of water we paid around € 10, although the prices go up a lot when you choose something more elaborate.

The "cukraszda" (pastry) Auguszt instead it is located in Kossuth Lajos utca, close to some of the Budapesting apartments here otherwise we decided to save money by focusing on "takeaways". The choice fell on the greedy but very simple Krémes (the name says it all) and on the classic Eszterhazy, a cake of Austrian origin with walnuts. The price is absolutely affordable, for these two goodies we spent less than 4€.

Unfortunately we have not been able to learn more about these "places of perdition" but hoping for a second future opportunity, the addresses not to be forgotten are those of the very historic and recently renovated New York cafe inside the homonymous hotel Boscolo, the elegant Central Cafe and Ruszwurm Cukraszda, in Buda, the most loved by Princess Sissi.
