Gallerie d'Italia: the 900th century construction site in Milan

In the heart of Milan, in front of the La Scala theater, you can visit the Construction site of the '900, an exhibition itinerary to discover the art of the last century in the Gallerie d'Italia.

Le Galleries of Italy are a project of the Intesa Sanpaolo bank, which opened a Milan, Naples and Vicenza some historic buildings owned by the group, transforming them into centers of culture and art for exhibitions, events, concerts and reviews.

The Milan office is housed in the very elegant building of the ancient headquarters of the Italian Commercial Bank, and then expands into the adjacent buildings, Anguissola and Brentani. A visit is a must, even just to see the interiors of the ancient bank and the homes of the wealthy Milanese of the past.

The Cantiere del '900 is a light but effective setting to understand and define the main artistic currents of the' 900. The various sections clearly present the major trends, such as the Informal, the Nuclear Movement, Kinetic and Programmed Art, Arte Povera, Pop Art, with works by artists such as Manzoni, Fontana, Burri and Vedova.

For those wishing to go back to the 800th century, they can continue with 'From Canova to Boccioni', a further exhibition itinerary that presents the various currents of the Italian nineteenth century passing through the main masters.

The Cantiere del '900 is in my opinion a must for anyone visiting Milan: free, well prepared, clear and concise, useful for understanding the art of the 900th century and its evolution.
