Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, Berlin

    Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, Berlin

Visit Berlin it is always surprising, it is not a city like any other, it does not have a center, each district has its own characteristics and is capable of giving you new and different emotions. I would define Berlin as the city of "a thousand surprises", and a great surprise for me was the visit to the Sanssouci palace and park in Postdam, a small town a few kilometers from Berlin that will make you feel like you are immersed in the past.

Sanssouci Palace (from the French Sanssouci = "without worries"), it was the summer residence of Frederick II the Great, king of Prussia, the ideal place where Frederick II resided without worries, cultivating his personal and artistic interests. A real private retreat for the king and his guests. Sanssouci Palace is referred to as the "Prussian Versailles", although in my opinion it is much nicer than Versailles, but of course it is just my personal taste.

The residence is surrounded by greenery, in a vast park with attention to the smallest details with wonderful floral decorations. Park Sanssuoci is characterized by small side paths that lead to the discovery of the gardens and other small residences within the park, in addition to that of Sanssouci including: the Palazzo Nuovo which houses an art gallery, a graceful Chinese house, the Casa del Drago which houses a café-restaurant, the Charlottenhof Palace and the Orangerie. Magnificent buildings surrounded by the greenery of this large park.

Visit of the whole park and all the buildings it takes at least half a day, if you want to visit everything properly I recommend staying there for at least a full day. Potsdam is a characteristic German town that is worth visiting; it has a small center with very very nice restaurants, shops, bars and cafeteria ... with several cellars where you can taste the best German craft beers.

    How to get there?
To get to Potsdam from Berlin you can take the bus (not recommended because it takes a long time) or the subway with the S1 line which takes you to your destination (and terminus) in Potsdam in 30 minutes. The Potsdam underground station is very large and houses numerous souvenir shops, fast food and restaurants where you can eat, also outside the station you will find the bus stop or several bicycle rental companies. I advise you to rent a bicycle, at a price of around 6 euros for the whole day, and to head towards the center and the park of Sanssouci which is about 5 minutes by bike. The price of the bikes is really low cost and the visit to the residence and the park are a free entry (many Germans go there for jogging).

Visit Potsdam and Park Sanssouci will allow you to spend a unique day outside the city traffic of Berlin.
