Bavaria not just beer: Neuschwanstein Castle

Bavaria not just beer: Neuschwanstein Castle

THEOktoberfest is approaching and surely many of you will be organizing their weekend, or the lucky ones, their week in Monaco of Bavaria. When you are tired of drinking beer, frolicking late and singing out loud, go to the station and take a train that goes to Fussen. It will take you about a couple of hours to arrive, but I assure you that you will not be disappointed ...
As soon as you leave the Füssen station you will find some buses that will take you directly to the slopes of the mountains where Neuschwanstein Castle is located. At this point you will have to do the Tickets at the Ticket point, although I strongly recommend that you book your visit from home directly on place identifying the time you prefer.
Booking is definitely recommended as it is the most visited castle in Europe, as well as one of the best known buildings in the world and a key symbol of German idealism.

Once you have the tickets in your hand, you will have three possibilities to reach the entrance of this fairytale castle, in the true sense of the word, since even Walt Disney was inspired by Neuschwanstein to draw the famous Disney castle, internationally known. The first, and the most romantic, is to arrive at the castle by carriage; the second, the most used, is to get on the buses headed to the grove; the third, and the most exciting, is to get to the castle on foot, but be careful because it could be more tiring than you might think ... we are still in the mountains!

Before entering, (please respect the time of entry, they are very fiscal), allow yourself some time to admire the castle from the most beautiful, most exciting and most photographed point: the Marienbruke. It is a suspension bridge over nowhere and over some cascades, from which you can admire the castle in all its splendor and feel so small in front of so much beauty. It is not recommended for those suffering from vertigo !!!!

Finally, take a seat in the atrium of the castle e enjoy the tour which includes the audio guide and which lasts just over half an hour. They will lead you only to some of the many, too many rooms of the castle, built by Ludwig II starting in 1868 and never completed. Neuschwanstein is located right in front of the Hohenschwangau castle, owned by Ludovico's father, and represents a real homage by the King to the medieval cultures and arts that Ludovico so admired and venerated.
