Lake Müritz in northern Germany

    Lake Müritz in northern Germany

What is the largest lake in Germany? That of Costanza, exactly. And the second largest? I bet you don't know: it's the lake of Müritz. We are a little north of Berlin, in the Land Mecklemburg-Vorpommern area that was part of the GDR, very rural, sparsely inhabited and with still unspoiled agricultural landscapes. Lake Müritz is very large and consists of many branches and also separate lakes.

On the banks there are the two largest centers, Goods e Röbel. They are two beautiful towns, with typically Nordic squares, houses with pointed roofs, a fountain in the middle, Lutheran churches, in Röbel a windmill very well preserved. The area is very touristy, obviously it is internal tourism, accommodation facilities abound, including campsites. For example, I opted for the rental of a caravan on the campsite, an economical and "dry" formula. Yes, because if you come on holiday here you have to take the rain into account.

The lake has its own melancholy charm, however the activities on the water bear witness to a past as a fisherman alongside the current recreational activity. There are some typical buildings, the fishermen's huts with thatched roof, but also some very well organized tourist marinas; the naturalistic aspect is enhanced with the possibility of observing many species of birds.

It is also fun to take the boat, there are many that make it there navigation tourist, with the possibility of seeing the coasts of this body of water and reaching the various towns by a different means.
