Bolzano, 5 breweries not to be missed

1. Ca'de Bezzi

Ca de Bezzi, in German Batzen Hausel is an ancient, indeed very old, brewery in Bolzano. Six hundred years ago it was the meeting place of the artists, at the time a mug of beer cost a batzen (4 quattrini). Closed during the war, it was then renovated and enlarged. Today, in addition to producing its own craft beer, pale abrata and dark, it offers a cultural and musical program with live concerts and poetry readings. The building is partly ancient, the room is very spacious and in summer you can sit at the tables in the courtyard. The food and service is a bit rustic, beer goulash, sausages, sandwiches and speck platters, the real highlight is the craft beer and the atmosphere.

2. Hopfen and Co.

This brewery overlooks Piazza delle Erbe, the fruit and flower market square in the historic center of Bolzano, always full of passers-by. Hopfen and Co. is a three-story room, with a narrow spiral staircase. The walls are decorated with enameled coats of arms of international breweries. The beer flows directly from the cellar where it is produced, on tap from the counter where it is served. Craft beer is also used to prepare the dishes on the menu: soups, penne and dumplings, everything, strictly, cooked in beer. Positive note of the restaurant: between lunch and dinner, the kitchen of Hopfen and Co. does not close, the brewery continues to offer a limited and reasonably priced menu with main strong dishes and some snacks.
