Complete is a small hilltop village 700 meters above sea level with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and countryside and is the ideal base for excursions, on foot or on horseback, in the area of La Axarquia, at the foot of the Sierra Almijara.
Il Old Town of Competa is fascinating: the splendid sixteenth-century church of La Asuncion overlooks Plaza Almijara, the lively main square, while the labyrinth of cobbled streets will lead you to interesting hidden corners. Competa is also home to the minaret pillow of Archez and the ruins of the Castillo de Bentomiz, the Arab castle of Arenas.
Competa is located less than an hour from Malaga airport, along the Motril ring road.
From Competa you can walk to the top of El Lucero, 1779 meters. The very demanding excursion lasts a whole day but once you get to the top you can enjoy a wonderful view over the city of Cordoba and Morocco.
Alternatively, from Canillas de Albaida, a village not far from Competa, you can drive to the Puerto Blanquillo pass at 1200 meters and then walk to Puerto de Competa.
