Bistrot with style in Florence, CiBi

Unfortunately this place has suddenly closed for some time.

In the meantime, I can recommend it for Valentine's Day, but this place open from the first days of January will make people talk about itself. First it is necessary to say a word about the district of Florence where it is located, Santo Spirito, in via delle Caldaie 12R a stone's throw from the square with the wonderful church of Filippo Brunelleschi.

The district on the left bank of Firenze, Santo Spirito in fact, is very interesting because it preserves its traditional soul married with a liveliness that is brought by young people and tourists who come here to look for the truest soul of Florentine life. Here still resist craft shops, the daily market, the houses inhabited by the common people, all however in the historic center and therefore mixed with beautiful places of art, from the already mentioned church to the frescoes of Masaccio, in the not far Piazza del Carmine to the nearby Palazzo Pitti.

Having made this necessary premise on the atmosphere that you will find in the area, there is certainly no shortage of nice places to dine. CiBi I'm talking about, however, has something more. This strange name leaves ample room for the imagination, from the banal reading of “foods” to the most imaginative creative interpretations of bistro, food and drink and whoever invents more… that's okay!

As soon as you enter you cannot fail to notice it is the long and beautiful counter-bar that lends itself to being set up for solitary or hasty customers; otherwise there are three rooms to accommodate sitting at the table. Above the counter an original ceiling of colored letters, like a typographer's drawer, but giant. On the floor there are very worn wooden planks, pleasant modern chairs, the shelving of iron boxes for ammunition. CiBi wanted to give itself an original but elegant look and did it great. In the summer there will also be an open space in the back garden, certainly just as pleasant.

The managers also plan to do more cultural activities, I quote literally from their website: "Presentations of books in the presence of the authors, meetings with producers, guided tastings of wines and spirits, thematic cooking lessons, screenings, animations for the little ones with a Sunday space dedicated to their entertainment are some of the many initiatives that will accompany the restaurant and café activities. "

For now you can only eat there and it is not a reduction; we start in the morning (from 10) with late breakfasts of tea, coffee and slices of cake or pastries. The lunch menu is different from that of dinner: faster dishes, but equally tasty, refined and creative even if all with ingredients used and treated by local tradition. Prices for lunch are around 15 euros.

Dinner is more sophisticated: I can't say that this is a low cost place, it doesn't even want to be. The menu is curated and changes with the seasons, the dishes are beautiful to look at as well as good for the palate, the wine cellar is well stocked. When you sit down, a glass of white wine and a vegetable appetizer arrive, already very tasty, a good morning starts in the morning .. The atmosphere is pleasant, the music at the right volume - in the background that allows you to talk. A romantic place? yes, too.

CiBi is closed on Sunday for dinner and on Mondays www.cibifirenze.it
