It is a question that has always plagued me and since I like to go against the trend, today I have chosen to offer you a not very famous place.

Vietri sul Mare: Amalfi Coast

I discovered this little place of the Amalfi Coast almost by chance on the occasion of a sporting event.

The event in question was the Cetara-Vietri, an open water swimming competition, which is now repeated annually in the first weeks of June.



While waiting to be able to swim the 3km in the splendid waters that bathe this town, I dedicated myself to observe and admire this place.

I must say that right from the start in reaching Vietri, I noticed how strategic its position was.

Vietri sul Mare is in fact what can be called the access point for the Amalfi Coast.

Vietri is in fact: 6 km from Cetara, 15 km from the large beach of Maiori, 16,5 km from Minori, 20 km from the wonderful Atrani, 20,5 km from the capital Amalfi, 25 km from the magnificent Ravello, 30 km from Praiano, 50 km from Sorrento, 26 km from Pompeii, 30 km from Furore and 38 km from the splendid Positano.

By increasing the radius instead we find: Acciaroli 96 Km, the promontory of Palinuro at 122Km, the beaches of Marina di Camerota 134Km, Sapri 155Km and Maratea 158 Km.

From Vietri it is also possible to reach, thanks to the ferries departing from the neighbor port of Salerno, the Island of Capri; while for the island of Ischia it is necessary to embark from the port of Naples.

Honestly, it would be nice to stay there for more than a few days, and it must be said that the prices are very affordable.

But here are the three places not to be missed in Vietri sul Mare.

Do not miss to walk through the historic center of the town, made up of narrow and intertwined alleys, alternating with ups and downs and decorated with ceramic tiles with various motifs.


2. The Church of San Giovanni Battista

The Church of San Giovanni Battista, with its characteristic dome made with splendid colored majolica, is perhaps the most important of the historic buildings that you should visit.

The Provincial Museum of Ceramics is located inside Villa Guariglia.
The museum is a stop that no one should miss, ceramic lovers and not: it represents what is the symbol of this place, ceramics.

Other places worth a visit are: la Tower of the Marina of Vietri; Raito, a hamlet of Vietri nestled between the green hills of the terraces overlooking the blue sea of ​​the coast; there Belvedere Tower; The Dragonea Tower.
