A country as complicated as ours and with which we share a love for food and the sun.
What are the places worth visiting in Spain?
It is a very difficult task to accomplish, as there are so many things to see and do that it is almost impossible for me to summarize in one post.
But I'll try .. or at least I'll try to introduce you to my personal Top 5.
Catalunya
Why not visit Barcelona, beautiful sunny and coquete.
Why Catalunya is not Spain. And it is a truth that almost none of the tourists can perceive from the beginning, but which is the essence of this wonderful region.
Forget the nightlife and tapas. There's more here.
La costa brava that takes your breath away with such beauty
Girona, Peratallada, Monells and company that take you back to the medieval era and are so perfect that they don't seem real.
All the year. It has no seasons.
Madrid
Why the real nightlife is here. Here we always go out. There is a bar on every corner and rivers of beer flow.
Because madrileños are hospitable and the city is beautiful, austere only in appearance.
Because there is so much culture and beautiful museums.
And even if there is no sea, the Pick up it's a great place to rest after touring the city far and wide.
And then if you have a few more days, don't miss Toledo, Segovia, Avila, Alcalá de Henares.
Avoid the summer. Here the saying of nueve meses de invierno y tres de infierno (nine months of winter and three of hell) is valid.
Granada
Simply because it is a beautiful city.
Why the Alhambra it is an enchanted place that you must see at least once in your life.
For flamenco, which was born here, thanks to the Sacromonte gitanos.
Because you can find tapas, the real ones.
Because the language is completely different,
'SAlbaicin, a maze of enchanted streets, where, with a little luck, you can visit a carmen (villas with Moorish gardens isolated from the outside world by high white tuff walls).
Spring is the best time.
The Balearic Islands
All, none excluded.
Because you don't really need to go to the Caribbean or the Maldives.
That sea is wonderful. Cold, salty, perfect.
Ibiza is not just a big nightclub.
In Formentera there are not only Italian VIPs (move, move away from the crowd, you will find a paradise)
Menorca is wild and beautiful.
Mallorca, the most cosmopolitan, has hidden corners that are wonderful, as you will find the historic center fascinating.
But go there out of season, otherwise you will find yourself with millions of other tourists, squeezed tight on a small piece of sand.
In the spring… until June. Then skip the summer and try October.
The Basque Country
Because you will be catapulted into an even different Spain.
With architecture reminiscent of Northern Europe and a rain that in effect recalls that of London (even if the Basques claim that it never rains ...)
Why Bilbao it is an effervescent city rich in culture and because there is no place in spain where you eat better.
Because San Sebastian remains in the heart and also its pinchos.
Then try to drive the coast that separates Bilbao and San Sebastian, you will feel like you are in Ireland. Here the sea is wild, the coasts high and steep, the landscape as strong as the locals.
It almost always rains. But maybe in June / July you might have luck.
