Dalt Vila Ibiza: history and legend overlooking the sea

A fortress overlooking the sea and telling its story every day. Dalt Vila is the old part of Ibiza, the historic heart of the city declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 by UNESCO and it is from above with the eyes that reach Formentera that you will see the true beauty.

Leave the worldliness, forget the nightlife for once and take refuge between the white and blue of the old town of Ibiza: a breathtaking itinerary in one of the best preserved acropolises in the Mediterranean surrounded by mighty Renaissance walls. Our walk starts at dusk from portal of ses Taules located opposite the old city market. Here you enter the porticoes of the suggestive Piazza delle Armi place that in the 60s saw the birth of the first hippy and lively market Dalt Vila square, where there is no shortage of bars and restaurants serving excellent fish dishes.

The old part of Ibiza offers magical corners with colorful colors: go up to the Piazza di Spagna, look out from the great walls and look for the sea, the port and the islets. The narrow streets of the center then offer unique and unforgettable moments: do not miss the town that was a Dominican convent and its cloister, do not miss the church of the Convent with its frescoes and its altarpieces and do not even miss the ancient seminary from the XNUMXth century with a defense tower from the XNUMXth century.

We continue to climb enraptured by the beauty of flowery views and sky-blue corners and thus we arrive at the square dominated by Eivissa Cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows, a holiday celebrated on August 5th. Here a small lookout will give us another delicate view of the city that slowly greets the sun.

Just outside the ancient walls, just below the Castle of Ibiza, now undergoing restoration work that will make it reborn as a modern of the elegant Parador de Turismo, stands the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, declared a Historic Artistic Monument in 1931 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

And after having regenerated yourself in the silence and peace of an ancient Ibiza, you can go down to the port and throw yourself into the nightlife, but that's another story.
