The Salone del Gusto in Turin, foods that change the world

Because the Salone del Gusto isn't it a gastronomic event like many others? Because it was born with a different purpose: the desire to show our gastronomic heritage as an integral part of our way of life. The will to convey the idea that the recovery of the food heritage traditional is not a niche whim for the rich but instead a way of countering the food industry in the strict sense. The desire to unite economy, tradition, pedagogy, culture, experimentation together.
To do this, it is not limited to just showing but proposes a series of activities that involve the visiting public by making them live an experience 360%.

In fact, among the many initiatives of the Salone we find the now famous ones guided tastings, the Taste Workshops, where, together with the producers and with the help of experts, we discuss food and wine, making comparisons, questions, tasting, with a playful and pedagogical approach. The program, each year richer, it also includes photographic exhibitions, conferences, screenings, meetings, culinary proposals that come from all over the world.

This year the central theme of the show is: "foods that change the world"And for this very reason the 2012 edition sees for the first time the merger of Salone del Gusto with Terra Madre, a community of producers from 150 countries that defend local products fromapproval of flavors and promote a production model that respects man and the fertility of the earth.

Other news compared to past years are the Pizza Square, where apart from the Pizza Laboratories it will be possible to see twenty-three pizza chefs from all over Italy alternating during the five days of the event to churn out the best expressions of the Neapolitan tradition and Italian innovation and the project of the Thousand Gardens in Africa represented by a space of 400 square meters filled with earth and crossed by some paths, representing all 25 countries involved.

The show does not end only in its historical headquarters of the Lingotto, but it involves the city so much that 25 of bars and restaurants belonging to Confesercenti and sites in the liveliest districts of Turin (Piazza Vittorio, San Salvario, Quadrilatero and Murazzi) every Tuesday starting from 9 and until 23 October dedicate the evening to food community arriving from the global South. The local adherents have pledged to donate 2 euros for each drink to the Terra Madre Foundation, to support the large network that believes in food as an engine of change.

In addition there will also be side events such as those with the cinema of "put an evening at the salon" or with the music of the Salone Off and the literary and musical café.

In short .. an event that contains a thousand that moreover will lead you to the discovery of a city that continues to change and reinvent itself while maintaining its soul.
