Thai Dinner in Shanghai: Thai Thai Cuisine & Lounge

Thai Dinner in Shanghai: Thai Thai Cuisine & Lounge

During my trip to Shanghai I met an old friend who now lives there and who took me to a beautiful neighborhood, Tian Zi Fang, in the former French Concession area, an area full of clubs, shops and art galleries. The neighborhood is easily reachable by underground getting off at the stop Dapuquiao.

Once we arrived, we immediately entered an alley lit by lights that seem almost Christmas, between tiny and very suggestive alleys with a more European air. The area is beautiful, the shops are very nice, and they have little to do with the junk they offered me in the tourist markets of Nanshi. It is a young and very dynamic neighborhood, the average age of passers-by is between 20 and 30 years. To eat something there is plenty of choice, Chinese but also ethnic restaurants of any kind.

After a round of patrols we opted for a Thai restaurant with a particular look. Good choice. The restaurant is called Thai Thai Cuisine & Lounge and the address is as follows: No 17-19, Lane 248 Taikang Lu, near Sinan Lu - Tian Zi Fang Complex, Shanghai. After asking for a table for two, they take us to the house opposite where there is a splendid atmosphere room upstairs. The place is beautiful and very tastefully decorated. Once on the first floor you have to take off your shoes because you sit on a mega mattress where various cushions and low tables are available. We will notice that the waiters to serve get on their knees on the mattress and proceed in this very funny mode all the time. We ordered from the menu by selecting the theoretically less spicy things (based on the number of chillies drawn next to the dish). I don't know your relationship with spicy but, having never eaten Thai I wanted to proceed by trial and error. We then ate some noodles with vegetables and a slightly (actually very) spicy chicken soup. All very good and accompanied by an excellent Chinese beer, light and not very sparkling.

As far as costs are concerned, the restaurant is considered to be high-end in Shanghai, however for us Europeans it is definitely at a good price. With about € 13 per person we ate some quality food in beautiful surroundings.
