Low cost lunch in Verona: the Povia panzerotti

If you are in Verona and you want to have lunch with very few euros here is an address for you!
It is the Povia pastry shop, in a very central position just behind the Arena (via Anfiteatro 12). It's a Sicilian pastry, and one would expect to find the typical sweets based on almonds and arancini, in reality the sector dedicated to these specialties (also these very good ones) is really minimal, while the thing for which it is universally known are its legendary panzerotti.

Huge, delicious, and being always in great demand, you will find them always hot just made, unless you happen to have to wait for them because they are still cooking (in that case beware of the bite with mozzarella leaking: the heat could be lethal). One of these panzerotti will cost you 3€ and I assure you that I've never seen anyone manage to eat two in a row! You can take it "for a walk", otherwise you can enjoy it sitting on one of the few metal tables in front of the pastry shop for the same amount, enjoying the spectacle of the foreshortening di arena in front of you.

And being so close, during the opera season in the late afternoon you will find a nice line of people coming together wrap the panzerotto to take to the arena and eat it while waiting for the show to begin. I forgot, do not ask what tastes you can have: theoriginal panzerotto from Povia it's just tomato and mozzarella!
