Yellowstone National Park is a national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and'Idaho. Yellowstone National Park has thousands of miles of trails spread over 2.2 million acres, steep peaks, explosive geysers, alpine lakes, deep forests, and an abundance of wildlife. Yellowstone is the largest active geyser field in the world. Home to about half of the world's geysers, Yellowstone is home to more than 10,000 hot springs and geysers. Some of them erupt 300 times a year, and many erupt with precise frequency ... There are several major geyser basins that visitors can explore via walkways or paved trails. The most famous geyser in the park, and possibly the world, is Old Faithful Geyser, which is in theUpper Geyser Basin. Castle Geyser, Lion Geyser and Beehive Geyser are in the same basin. L'Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone's largest geyser basin (over 150) and in fact the largest concentration of hot springs in the world, occupies about one square mile. Most of these springs are located within a few hundred yards of the Firehole River. It is recommended that those planning to visit Upper Geyser Basin spend a good portion of their time here.

Old Faithful Geyser has erupted more than one million times since Yellowstone became the world's first national park in 1872. On average, Old Faithful erupts approximately every 92 minutes and shoots water 135 feet into the air. Eruptions can last anywhere from a minute and a half to five minutes.

North Entrance: Gardiner, MT, is the only park entrance open to wheeled vehicles year-round and is the busiest due to ease of access. Before deciding on your route, check the park's official website for all the information on the roads, which are open to different months of the year and not all of them are suitable for private vehicles.


Where to stay

The best way to answer this question is to decide how much time you have and what you want to see the most of. If you plan to visit Yellowstone National Park for only a few days West Yellowstone would be a good place to start. If you want the full park experience, perhaps staying atOld Faithful would be a good choice. If you want to see mostly wildlife, we recommend the northeast entrance and a short trip to the Lamar Valley. When is the best time to visit the park?

This depends on the interests of visitors. Spring has abundant wildlife, plentiful waterfalls but not easily predictable weather: it can snow or be hot. Summer has it all, including a large crowd. If you want to avoid it, get out early to visit the park! Fall is a special time of year for wildlife and an excellent time to visit. Plus, the crowds thin out. Winter is a lonely time.
