Where to eat seafood in Oban

Oban is a small Scottish village on the west coast from which you can embark for the islands of Iona and Mull, and it is therefore almost necessary to spend at least one night there. Here I tell you where to eat well and low cost.

The place I have eaten best in Scotland is definitely theOban Pier Seafood Hut, to Oban precisely. It was the end of the trip and as my last city I spent two nights in Oban. It is not difficult that you can happen to sleep here, because boats and daily excursions depart from this town to the Isle of Mull and Iona, but not only.

In Oban there is also one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, and even better in my opinion. So if one day you will not be able to do the excursion that you had planned, I suggest you go to the Oban Distillery for a nice and good tasting.

As a small seaside village in Oban you eat a lot of fish and chips. The promenade on the sea, full of benches and shops, which I highly recommend you to do, has many shops and restaurants for fish and chips.

Someone offers outdoor tables - which are always crowded when the sun is shining, others only indoor seats and the possibility of take away. Then there are the real fish restaurants, where in addition to the plate of fish and chips you can order seafood too. As you can imagine, the prices here are a bit higher and they weren't crazy for me, neither as a location nor as authenticity. I haven't eaten at one of these places, preferring instead a slightly more basic place, the Oban Pier Seafood Hut.

I'm not sure how to call the Oban Pier Seafood Hut because it's not a restaurant, it's not indoors and it's not even a take away, it's a mix of things, but now I'll tell you more calmly. Once you reach the station area, where buses and larger boats also depart, hidden behind other restaurants, you will notice a green plant, almost a shed.

Next to it are two large wooden tables, probably many people, but if you are lucky, there are few lines, and very good fish!

The menu is on a slate and the dishes for two, both small and large, are offered a bit like offerings. A small plate for two of seafood is £ 12.50, while the big one comes 25lbs. I took the small plate for two, but only because I was very hungry and wanted to eat immediately, if only I had had a little patience I could have ordered sandwiches with shrimp sauce, hot mussels and many other small portions. Besides the dish I also got 4 oysters.

After ordering they invited me to sit down and only after a few minutes did they arrive with my order. There is not always a place to sit, also because there are four benches and two tables, but you eat very quickly, also because it is outdoors and there are no waiters or after-lunch cafes.

In 15 minutes you will have eaten and you will be happy, this I can assure you. Since there is no bathroom and one of the first things you will think about after having lunch is where to wash your hands, I will give you the good news right away. Next to the green kiosk there is one drinking fountain complete with soap and paper to dry hands.

I did not doubt the freshness of this fish even for a moment, but for the avoidance of doubt I tell you that I saw crates full of crabs still half-alive arriving while I was there to eat. People who flock here for lunch time often come to eat that's true, but many are intrigued by the crowds and even the fish that the fishermen bring to the docks. In my opinion it is one of the best places to eat in Oban for a quick and cheap meal. And if you want to try some fish restaurants, here is full of them. But then, don't say I didn't warn you!
