Where sleeping in Terceira, Hotel in the Azores

Where to sleep in Terceira, in the Azores Islands. Why I chose Pousada São Sebastião, its strengths and why to recommend it: services and restaurant included. Many tips to better organize your stay in the Azores.

Arrive at Azores it means taking at least two flights, because everyone has a stopover in Lisbon. Once you arrive, however, there is nothing more beautiful than finding a modern and comfortable accommodation, facing the ocean, waiting for you. Our flight from Rome, with a stopover in Lisbon, arrived at Third: the second largest island of the Azores (the first is San Miguel). Our rental car is waiting for us. And then, of course, ours Terceira hotels.

A splendid hotel in Terceira

We never needed the navigator, the directions to the villages were everywhere and even once we got to the village where we had our hotel, finding it was a breeze. There Pousada São Sebastião, located in the main city, a Angra do Heroísmo, is located in a splendid position.

A structure that is located in an old blockhouse with an unrivaled view, in front of the Ocean and the Mount Brasil. Pousada São Sebastião immediately puts you in a good mood, right from the arrival. Parking in front of the structure is free, which is no small feat. Super friendly and helpful staff, with classic Portuguese friendliness, wifi free throughout the hall and in the restaurant and breakfast room. In theory the WiFi also arrives in the rooms but in mine it arrived not very well. The rooms are equipped with every kind of comfort, we also had a cot for Giulio but we never used it out of habit.

Hotel restaurant

For those who arrive late at night - or prefer to stay at the hotel for a few evenings rather than go out for dinner - I recommend the restaurant of the Pousada São Sebastião, excellent dishes and wines from the islands that are certainly a good incentive for those who are curious to taste. The same room offers the morning already from 7 la breakfast, with products from the Azores. Council, indeed no, I highly recommend yogurt made right on the island of Terceira that are sold out in the morning, because those who try them once then take them back every day. Creamy and with an intense taste, after all, here the animals are really treated like people: no intensive farming, but happy cows as far as the eye can see, a really nice thing.

In the room you will find TV, fridge (where we have hidden the cheeses bought in Terceira until the day of departure), beauty set in the bathroom and super soft pillows. Ah, here double beds are often made up of two beds, but not singles, let's say almost French. So the bed that comes out is huge, even if it always has two separate blankets, at least that's what happened to me in the two hotels where I slept in the Azores, here in Terceira and San Miguel.

How to get around

From Pousada São Sebastião you can easily reach the center of Angra do Heroísmo, even without necessarily taking the car. If the day promises sun, you can go down the hill where the hotel is located, get there to the Marina and the port (where on your return you can have excellent aperitifs!) and from here take a short climb to get directly to the main square. The city is an ups and downs of streets and streets, so however it is there is a bit of work: it is still worth spending at least a day on foot in Angra do Heroísmo for its history and its past.
