Wabi sabi in Pesaro: a Japanese who is worth a dinner

Wabi sabi in Pesaro: a Japanese who is worth a dinner

I state that I am not very fond of Japanese cuisine: I don't disdain it, but a sushi dinner generally doesn't satisfy me very much. Here is the reason why I was not very keen on going up in Pesaro to eat at Wabi sabi, touted by a friend as the best Jap restaurant in the area. The place is really tiny and you wouldn't even notice it from the outside: a small sign and a glass door without many decorations anticipate the minimalism that we will find inside. The area is the central one, just off one of the main streets of the city, in Piazza Matteotti; for this reason parking in the surroundings is not easy, but not impossible either.

As soon as you enter, you realize how small the Wabi sabi is: very few wooden tables and a bar counter. The tones are light wood and white and Japanese landscape prints hang on the walls. The bathroom is also worth a visit: it's Zen too! :) There is a calm and peaceful atmosphere, even if the place is almost always full. They welcomed us with a spicy broad bean appetizer, accompanied by a wicker tray full of warm and scented towels to clean your hands. Chopsticks are de rigueur and the porcelain plates and glasses in soft colors complete an elegant and simple set. We started with a mixed appetizer, mix of sushi and giant maki. Everything was really very tasty and the fish looked so fresh. The portions are generous and all dishes presented with care. The waitress was really very nice and despite being full, she took our orders without making us wait too long. Then there are those who continued with an encore and with orders of particularly spicy dishes, but I stopped: I was really full! For dessert we treated ourselves to a green tea ice cream, which turned out to be an excellent digestive. In the menu I also read the name of some particular tea, but unfortunately I was unable to try them.

Considering that we had also taken a bottle of wine and a bottle of beer and especially considering the amount of food ordered, we didn't spend much: 33 € each, a fair price for a good quality sushi meal. Given the size of the room, it is necessary to book in advance. Here is one of the few Japanese whose business card I keep.
