Who said you need to live in a big city to see interesting things? There are glimpses more or less hidden that many people do not know and that continue to get lost looking for distant landscapes. There quiet of the countryside it is, for those who are not used to it, relaxing and facilitates excursions and the search for those small characteristic places seems to be around every corner.
To stay nearby on a nice sunny day you might start by making one gita in the small town of Soncino, (Cremona province) visit the medieval castle of the tenth century (also used as a film set for period films such as Lady Hawk), make a stop at the house of the Jewish printers, a typical fourteenth-century tower structure located in the North-East district of the Borgo once inhabited by the Jews where the Jewish cemetery and probably the synagogue also stood.
You retrieve the car, cross the Oglio river and you arrive in Orzinuovi, a city of around 1100 founded to control the incursions of the Cremonese in the Brescia territories, the fortress and the beautiful rectangular square, the "living room" of the city, are the two most recognizable places in terms of importance, but this city on the edge of the province of Brescia hides many pearls. It was, in fact, the birthplace of many famous people, such as, for example, the painters Bartolomeo Cincani known as "the Mountain" and Pier Maria Bagnadore, the latter painted the canvas called "Orzinuovi's offering to the Virgin" preserved in the town hall, while the church of San Domenico houses the canvas by Moretto called the Pala di Orzinuovi which represents the Madonna enthroned with the Child among saints Domenico, Giuseppe, Vincenzo Ferrer, Lucia.
The fifteenth-century noble palaces, the various churches, the nearby hamlets with their defensive bulwarks, the residences of the Brescia nobility and the various farmhouses are just some of the things to discover while wandering around the area. And if this is not enough for you, you can distract yourself with a walk along the Oglio Park and to end the day go back to the ocean "living room" and drink a "pirlo"(What in the rest of Italy is commonly called spritz!)
