With the spring I have the desire to gelato. If I were to think of the three ice cream shops in Rome where I would go, on the podium I would put in order:
- Giolitti, for the story. I am not referring to the one behind the Parliament that everyone knows. I would immediately think of Testaccio. Born in 1914, time seems to have stopped here. The furnishings are typical of the 30s and the preparation of ice cream still follows traditional techniques. Few flavors come from here, mostly creams, but enchanting. Those who like eggnog will find the real flavor here, with a touch of cream that seems freshly whipped at home. Simply divine. - Fassi, for the cream. I tried desperately to find a better cream. I didn't make it. On the long counter, always crowded with foreigners trying to gain positions to be served first, many flavors alternate, from creams to fruit. The cream is in a tray and is placed directly with the scoop on the ice cream. Impossible to resist asking him for more. - Old bridge, for the quantity. Near the Vatican walls, the place can be recognized by the endless queue on the sidewalk. It certainly enjoys considerable fame, mainly due to its position. There are not many tastes, and you have to know how to choose them, because some do not deserve. For the rest, it gives an incredible satisfaction for two euros to have a literally huge ice cream. Just the thought brings a smile.
