The strangest toilets in the world

When we travel we have to get used to the climate, the food, the language, the means of transport, the customs and traditions of the country… but also the toilet. The cup, the turkish, the vespasian, the bush, the low wall, in the end you still have to adapt to what you find. These are some of the more original models I have come across on my travels:

Hi-tech toilet: found in the bathroom of the Shanghai World Financial Center, the tallest skyscraper in the city, is a real puzzle. Next to the tablet there is a display with remote control that should activate various mysterious functions, sprays and jets that are not better identified as the explanatory legends are in Chinese. To avoid strange surprises I only pressed the flush button, the only one that is easily recognizable.

Nature toilet: as opposed to the previous one, it has no special function, not even water. But it's not just the classic bush or tree trunk. For example in Mexico, in the archaeological site of Kalakmul, there was a real toilet, but instead of the cup you found a hole in the wooden floor connected to a septic tank. Once the need was finished, a handful of earth and sawdust had to be thrown into the pit at the disposal of the guests in practical tin buckets. The system seemed to be working well, the place was clean and not smelly.

Collective toilet: this also experienced in China, in an unlikely motorway restaurant in the middle of the Sichuan mountains still devastated by the earthquake. So how do you describe it? A room with low walls that divide the various positions aligned on the two long sides, no doors, and, instead of the bowl or the squat, a drainage channel dug into the floor that crosses all the various positions. And no toilet. In this case it is preferable to find the tree or bush mentioned above.

Tray toilet: this type of toilet is very popular in Holland. It is a type of cup where the drain hole with the water is in a strange position, very advanced, while the central part of the vase is a kind of tray, a raised shelf on which to deposit one's artistic products and contemplate them at work. finished. It is still not clear to me why the Dutch like this model so much, but it seems that it gives a particular pleasure to admire their masterpieces before delivering them to the infamy of the sewer, and then comment on the results with their friends. The latter practice is in use above all among male specimens.

Refreshing toilet: popular in Arab countries, I found it in Egypt and in United. It is a toilet very similar to our own ones, but with the addition of a small tube next to it with a water dispenser, which can be used to cool the private parts from the scorching heat of those countries. The only downside: pay attention to the intensity of the spray if you want to avoid a full shower.

These are just a few examples, but I'm sure there are many, many others… have you found any strange WCs in the world too?
