Sleeping in Lisbon at the Embaixador Hotel

Where to sleep in Lisbon on a budget, while remaining close to the subway, here is a good compromise: the Hotel - no longer known as Embaixador - is called Ibis Styles Lisboa Centro Liberdade NE Hotel.

The structure we are talking about in this article is no longer known by the name of Hotel Embaixador but is called Ibis Styles Lisboa Centro Liberdade NE Hotel.

Lisbon it is one of those European capitals that you have to visit at least once in your life. I did it in the summer, in mid-July, and I must say that I was very lucky both for the good weather that accompanied us throughout our stay and for the climate in general. Lisbon overlooking the Tagus River and thanks to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean it has the good fortune to be kissed, already in the late afternoon, by a constant refreshing wind which is really pleasant in summer.

The capital of Portugal is one really big city where to move, however, is not absolutely difficult even if you decide to stay outside the historic center. Lisbon is in fact traveled underground by a 'great subway, nothing comparable to London but still very efficient.

Ibis Styles Lisboa: review

We therefore chose to stay atIbis Styles Centro Liberdade NE Hotel of Lisbon. The property is located near Marquez de Pombal Square, one of the main and largest in the Portuguese capital. In my opinion the hotel was a good choice. The right compromise to find yourself out of the chaos of the most touristic central districts but not so far away. In fact, from the structure it is also possible to take a nice walk to the monuments or characteristic places of Praca do Comercio.

What to expect: structure and services

The hotel from the outside is certainly not a thousand and one nights, but the rooms were comfortable, well cleaned and free wi-fi. The interiors are very neat and the hotel has more than eighty rooms. The breakfast room was on the top floor, which is not so unusual in hotels, but the peculiarity was to enjoy thewhole panorama of the city of Lisbon from above thanks to the huge windows of the hall that ran along at least three sides of the great hall.

A great view

Unfortunately, the breakfast was nothing exceptional, of a continental type, but the view that was enjoyed amply repaid some small shortcomings of the hotel. One of the things I appreciated most was watching the constant coming and going of the planes landing. We have therefore chosen to do not stay in the central districts of the capital but in what we can consider the first outer circle in the center.

The convenience of the metro

The city of Lisbon is a constant ups and downs and if you intend to visit it with children I absolutely recommend that you take a stroller with you, especially if you have small children. I chose this hotel not by chance only for the competitive cost, but also because it was just over 200 meters away the subway entrance.

In just three stops you will already be in the historic center of Lisbon in the district of Baixa-Chiado, one of the most characteristic together with Alfama e Rossio. However, if you are a good walker like myself, in less than fifteen minutes, walking from Marquez de Pombal square along Avenida de Libertade, you will arrive in the central and beautiful Rua Aurea.
