Shopping in Egypt, bargaining: mistakes to avoid

Buy something in a egyptian shop, whether it's Hurghada or Sharm el Sheikh it makes little difference, it's not as easy as we are used to in Italy or Europe. I personally found the difficult and exhausting bargaining, while some of my travel companions were fascinated by the experience. That's the reason for this post that I'd like to share to understand your impressions as well.

First, the choice of shop is decisive. Try not to get too far into the streets as happened to me in Sharm el Sheikh, especially if you are only girls. Stay in the main streets and see that entering the shop and sipping tea with them is a common practice so do not be afraid.

What bothered me about this bargaining is the total disorganization of the staff". The good will is also there because they are aware that they are dealing with European people who are therefore concrete and that I don't want to waste too much time. In addition to the disorganization, there is the fact that often the garments we asked for, size color shape, came "Reinterpreted", the measure was not always that, neither the color nor the shape. In short, the first is fine, the second also but the third that brings me something different I start to get impatient. For heaven's sake, as mentioned there are also those who found themselves well. Sure is for shopping here you don't have to be in a hurry, just to visit a shop and try on a pair of shoes it took us an hour: D

Finally you have to ask immediately the price of the garment and even if obviously the negotiator will say "first tell me what you want and then let's see the price" try to insist also because in the end the price said at the beginning, if you find what you wanted, it will certainly be higher than the declared one. If you want to bargain remember to starting at less than half the price offered by the shopkeeper, only by going up a few euros or Egyptian pounds will you be able to reach your price / target and in any case know that in one way or another ...he will always have earned it!
