Salento, 5 almost secret beaches

Salento's beaches are fantastic to dream of at any time of the year: especially those far from mass tourism, true terrestrial paradises.

In recent years the Salento it has become a very popular destination for summer holidays and the reason is clear to everyone: white beaches, crystal clear water, why not, fun, but also a lot of culture and a very strong tradition that binds the Salento people to their land.
If on the one hand, however, the large number of tourists has brought so much fame to this land, to the point of being renamed "the new Romagna Riviera“, On the other hand it is in danger of losing the uniqueness and true essence that have always characterized it.

Salento, 5 almost secret beaches

With this post I want you to take a dip (alas, only virtual) in four beaches of Salento among the most beautiful and, for the moment, far from mass tourism.

1. Torre Specchia Ruggeri

We are in the marine of Melendugno, more precisely between San Cataldo and San Foca, on the Adriatic coast. Torre Specchia boasts small and large coves interrupted by vast vegetation and cliffs overlooking the sea; it is the ideal place to relax as its beaches are never too crowded (no, not even in August).
Precisely for this reason they are the ones preferred by locals; it will not be difficult to end up making friends with a Salento family that has an umbrella close to yours. Torre Specchia is also a paradise for lovers of watersports: here, when the north wind blows and the sea is rough, you can have fun doing '' Kite Surf ''.

2. Bay of Santo Stefano

Otranto it needs no introduction; this small pearl of the Adriatic is famous for the beauty of the historic center and its alleys; what few people know, however, is that just a few kilometers north of this town is the Bay of Santo Stefano. After a short walk in the pine forest, you will reach this wonder that very few people know. The beach is very narrow in some places so arrive early in the morning to get the best spots and enjoy the white sand and crystal clear sea!

3. Bay of Porto Miggiano

Further south but always on Adriatic coast, In the municipality of Santa Cesarea Terme, we find this splendid cove 20 meters high set between large rocky walls. The bay consists mostly of paved rocks and a small sandy beach. Thanks to its horseshoe shape, this natural pool is always accessible, whether the north wind or the sirocco wind blows.
To the left of the beach there is also a lovely cave accessible only by swimming from the sea. Both the rocky and the sandy part can be reached by two stairways carved into the friable rock but, before walking them, it is a must to stop and admire this spectacle of nature and its unforgettable colors from above.

4. Bay of Porto Selvaggio

Moving on to the Ionian coast, in municipality of Nardò, we find Porto Selvaggio. This park consists of several beaches, the most beautiful one is without a doubt the bay of Porto Selvaggio. This corner of paradise remains far from the tourist waves perhaps because it is not so easy to reach it: access to the park, in fact, is allowed only on foot and to reach the bay you will have to walk a path of about 20 minutes.

5. Bay of Uluzzo

Another noteworthy beach of the park, more difficult to reach than that of Porto Selvaggio, is the bay of Uluzzo. The area that surrounds it is characterized by a high and impervious cliff and perhaps for this reason the panorama is even more suggestive.

In conclusion, I assure you that the effort you will make in walking through the park, under the scorching sun of the Salento summers, will be fully rewarded by the spectacle that will manifest itself before your eyes, a perfect fusion of sea and unspoiled nature.
