Rome, ten things to do as a tourist

Journey to the Eternal City, between history, legends, splendid sunsets and walks in the countryside: this is what you really cannot miss.

Rome not only enchants those who see it for the first time, but also those who live there. As a Roman when I walk through the streets of my city, I can't help but photograph the monuments and fountains that have been there for centuries, unchanged over time. Yet my pc's Pictures folder is full of them. Sometimes I myself have visited the city as a tourist, and if I had to suggest to others, ten things to do absolutely, these below would be my recommendations.

Rome, ten things to do as a tourist

1. Throw the coin into the Trevi Fountain

Fixed stop of every great event of my life to date, the fountain of the god Neptune, on his chariot pulled by tritons, also guards my wishes, sometimes come true, others in progress.

2. Visit the Imperial Forums

It is well known that Rome is an open-air museum, the remains of the Forums are there as evidence of the Holy Roman Empire that reached everywhere in Europe and beyond. The Forum of Augustus was the seat of the court of ancient Rome. Further on, towards the Forum of Caesar, there was the land registry.

3. Visit the Colosseum

Since you are in the Forum, take the opportunity to visit the most famous arena in the world. If in fact the Capitoline she-wolf with the two children are the symbol of the city, in the world as Rome is heard, the first associated monument is precisely him, the Colosseum, the arena in which the thumbs down of the emperors decided the fate of the gladiators.

4. Pantheon

Admire the oculus in the most sacred church in Rome, as well as of course St. Peter's Basilica, where Raphael also wanted to be buried.

5. Visit the Vatican

The seat of the Bishop of Rome and the Catholic Church deserves a full day of your stay. You cannot miss the ascent to the dome, the visit to the Tomb of the Popes, the Vatican Gardens, the Basilica of San Pietro, where among the numerous works, you will find the statue of the PietĂ  by Michelangelo. Last, or before the rest, a visit to the Vatican Museums to admire another of Michelangelo's masterpieces, the Sistine Chapel.

6. TrinitĂ  dei Monti

More famous and more popular is the fashion week in Milan, Paris or New York, but Rome also hosts for a certain period, the AltaRoma fashion shows, the stage for emerging designers, who had even the famous one as the theater for his fashion shows stairway of TrinitĂ  dei Monti, which connects Piazza di Spagna with the Church of the TrinitĂ  dei Monti. To the right of the church, Via Sistina connects you with Piazza Barberini, Via del Tritone and Via Veneto.

7. Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus

Another thing to do during your stay is to visit the Mask of the Triton or Bocca della VeritĂ , behind which lies the legend that could bite the hand of those who lied. Just go to the Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, under whose arcade, you will find the Bocca della VeritĂ .
A short distance away is the Circus Maximus, a meeting place for both cultural events (demonstrations, concerts) or even just to enjoy the beautiful and snowy days.

8. Walk around the Trident

Imagine Piazza del Popolo as if it were the staff of the god Poseidon, the three streets that start from there, Via del Babbuino, Via del Corso and Via Ripetta, are better known as Tridente, and connect the Piazza to the Vittoriano and Piazza Venezia.

9. Piazza Navona

During the Christmas holidays, which are getting closer and closer, the square is filled with stalls and the carousel of the Carosello, a classic destination for the Romans on the day of the Epiphany for the usual photo with the Befana. At its center the Bernini's Fountain of the Rivers, which represents the four great rivers of the world: Nile, Ganges, Danube and Rio della Plata.

10. Rome by night

The Eternal City already has its charm during the day, but at night the monuments take on a completely different beauty illuminated by the moon. My advice is to get a tripod to give the camera lens more stability, to position yourself high, then the terrace of the Pincio, from the top of the steps of TrinitĂ  dei Monti, from Janiculum terrace.
For a sunset to remember, recommended the Orange Garden.
