Premantura Park and Cape Kamenjak: Istria

Uncontaminated coves, trails on foot or by mountain bike, relaxation and good food: all this is the Premantura Park. Ready to immerse yourself in nature just under 10 km from city traffic?

The peninsula that extends south of Pula - in Istria - is a parenthesis of unspoiled nature less than ten kilometers from city traffic.
The amazing Premantura promontory is a succession of hills and Mediterranean vegetation, interspersed with about thirty coves with crystal clear water around which fruit trees, wild flowers and medicinal herbs of different qualities grow.

Activities, beaches and food at Premantura Park

This fantastic landscape offers the visitor a range of different activities: sporting, relaxing, fun and above all in close contact with nature.
In fact, in the park there are wider dirt roads and a network of paths that cross pine forests, go up and down the low hills and skirt the sea.
They can be traveled on foot or by mountain bike, but the access of motor vehicles is absolutely forbidden.

How to reach the park

Although, in fact, the most convenient solution is to reach Cape Kamenjak by car, a few hundred meters from the entrance you can park and continue on foot.
To enter the park by car you pay a 40KN ticket (directly at the entrance from 7 am). Alternatively you can take the urban bus 28 from Pula to Premantura (20KN) and then rent a bicycle to visit the park in the town of Premantura for about 70KN per day.

At the time of rental, I would recommend that you evaluate the type of route you want to tackle and be assigned the most suitable bike. The paths inside the park do not all provide the same difficulty: some are simple and scenic routes, others require more experience on rough terrain.

Pristine coves: main attraction

Of course, the main attraction of the park remain the coves with pristine water. They are numerous and scattered along the entire coastal path, it is easily accessed from the main path (on which, however, you will have to leave your bike, making it safe).
The coves are not spacious; on the hottest days, and in the high season in general, they are often crowded, but don't let yourself get discouraged.
The peace and relaxation that this place gives are worth a visit, despite the number of people with whom you will find yourself sharing the experience!

Kolombarica beach

Among the many, the beach of Kolombarica is the best known for the high rocks from which the local boys dive with ease.
A little further up, a small beach bar for moments of rest and relaxation.
For a typical lunch, low cost and absolutely delicious I recommend finally to take a few more steps inland following the signs for the Istarska Farma farmhouse. As soon as you smell the scent of embers you will be close to your destination, which is a cozy small farm with farmhouse, horses, carpets and lots of nature.
You can have lunch on the veranda enjoying fresh beer and local dishes, such as grilled suckling pig, mixed grills and of course very fresh fish.

So much relaxation could lead you to forget to check your watch, but be careful! At 22.00 the park closes and overnight stay, even with regular camping equipment, is absolutely forbidden, therefore it is necessary to move in time by calculating the times of the return journey.
If you still want to spend the evening nearby, no problem: outside the protected area of the park, in fact, the town of Premantura offers various services, restaurants, cafes, bakeries open until late in the evening and a delicious pastry-ice cream parlor right in the main square of the country!
