Jurien Bay and the Pinnacle Desert

Jurien Bay is a seaside town 220 km north of Perth, reachable in a few hours by car. The most characteristic campground in the area (about $ 10 per car), located a few miles north of the town along the Indian Ocean Drive, is nothing more than a series of small open spaces, hidden among the sand dunes that lead to the sea. If you are lucky and arrive early, you will be able to camp near the ocean shore and fall asleep lulled by the sound of the breaking waves.

The name Mulka is linked to an Aboriginal legend. Mulka was the illegitimate son of a "forbidden couple" who had been forbidden to marry. It is said that the punishment for the parents, guilty of breaking the law, was giving birth to a son with cross eyes: Mulka. Because of this, the boy was unable to accurately throw the rod during hunting trips, so much so that frustrated by the situation, he began to hunt and feed on the children of the village, sowing terror among the inhabitants. The cave, where very large handprints can be observed, was his refuge.
