New Year's Eve in Spain? Don't miss the churros

If you are planning a New Year in Spain, you cannot fail to know this tradition, the one that Churros. In Spain, but especially in Madrid, the tradition is to have breakfast on 1 January with hot chocolate with churros, to warm up from the cold, but not only, by tradition and to start the new year gently.

What is churro? Churros are a typical Spanish dessert sold all year round in patisseries and stalls. The churros pasta is made with flour, water, sugar and salt, very simple. The pasta is put in one of those bags that "shoot" it directly into the boiling oil, because they are fried, and after a sprinkling of icing sugar they are eaten still hot.

You can taste them all year round like this, dry, but also well dipped in a beautiful one cup of hot chocolate. In Madrid, for example, after midnight on the last day of the year, the Spaniards find themselves in the Chocolatería San Ginés, near Plaza del Sol. Very well known and frequented by locals to taste the best churros and wish you a happy new year.
