Malta, a low cost holiday.

Too hot in summer, it is best to visit it in spring or autunno forward to enjoy sunshine, a light breeze and an always blue sky. Island from exotic taste but European, both in appearance and in the table. It seems to be in one postcard from the 50s with its rusty buses and gas cylinders on the terraces, but at the forefront of the divertissement. The young people of Europe tell mum and dad that they want to go and study English, but it stays late most evenings.

The nightlife is concentrated in upper part of Valletta: Silema, where there is also a mess; the red dragon, free admission and few pretensions. The premises are Free entrance and sometimes it happens to find coupons for free drinks, for two people. I found them in a free magazine in the hotel nightYday Malta.

Transportation is not a problem, last century buses take you everywhere and there ordinary ride it only costs 50 cent. Double if you have a suitcase and a little more if you go a little further, for example to visit Medinath, the oldest and definitely suggestive part, given the strong Arab influence.

The hotels are cheap, for a single in a four star I paid 40 € per night, breakfast included. It was November, but the temperatures and the weather took me back a few months and it was full of tourists. Abseiling down to 25 € the room and even if it doesn't have the standard of our 4 stars, it is spacious and clean, I think it has been renovated a few years ago. Mine was theKennedy Nova Hotel.

For those wishing to make one Sea Holiday there are wonderful hotels, all with mega pools further north of the island, in Mellihea, but then you are a bit far from everything. Gozo is also worth a visit, with Calypso's cave a bit disappointing but breathtaking views. You can get there by ferry, 6 € one way. There are also Birgu (Vittoriosa) and Senglea (Invicta) worth a ride on the typical boats with eyes of Osiris, for 10 euros you will see all the fort and the various coves of the island.

Il food it is varied, it is a cosmopolitan reality, you can really find everything even if i Italian dishes and English pubs are the masters. You can dine with menus from € 6 or a little more, avoiding the tourist square bars. There is also a self service on the strand near the hotel all you can eat chinese, you pay by weight, very cheap.

Don't miss i sweets, they have every shape and color and the taste is exquisite: donuts, Sicilian cannoli, pastizela, small beignets filled with fresh cream and covered with chocolate, Spiced biscuits or with dried fruit and figs. The problem is that they cost a few cents and in some shops there is even a free tasting, in short, there is no way to avoid them. The souvenirs are cheap and nice, with about ten euros you can satisfy all your friends. In short, for a first bath of sun and culture you can start by lightening the spirit but not the wallet.
