Maldives, all recommended excursions

All the excursions to do on holiday in the Maldives, from snorkeling to bottom fishing and much more, in the post the activities of those who have tried and reviewed and recommended them, read here.

Le Maldives they are real pearls set in a sea that cannot be more crystalline. Already flying over these splendid atolls you can perceive how unique these islands are lost in the ocean. The sea and the paradisiacal beaches are the main reasons that push many tourists to face many hours of flight, but it would be a real shame to get here and miss the wonderful underwater life and the coral reef.

In Previous post I had generally talked about my stay in the guesthouse on fishermen's island Dharavandhoo, but one of the determining factors was certainly the fact that it included daily boat excursions. Here is an in-depth analysis of the main activities that will be carried out during the outing at sea.

Where to snorkel in the Maldives

First of all it is good to remember that during all snorkeling trips we are always accompanied in the water by Maldivian boys. They will always check the sea conditions, giving the ok to dive and be able to start an unforgettable experience. Also who is not expert can easily discover the seabed: what you need is only a mask, snorkel, fins and obviously a minimum of swimming skills. The duration of the snorkeling is more or less than an hour and the boat is always close in case you need or want to go up ahead of time.

But honestly it is so fantastic to swim with all those colorful fish and especially with sea turtles, that I have never perceived neither the tiredness nor the sense of time. In fact, many times I would have stayed in the water even much longer. There barrier Reef it is beautiful, full of corals of all shapes and colors. It feels like swimming in an aquarium: there are lots of colorful fish that Maldivian guides will help you to spot and recognize. But the amazing thing is swimming with the sea turtles, follow them for some stretches and admire them in all their splendor.

Swimming with manta rays in the Maldives

In 2011 l 'Baa atoll has been declared Unesco Biosphere Reserve for the richness and variety of its biodiversity. Hanifaru Bay, accessible only after requesting a special permit, is a protected marine reserve where hundreds of manta rays arrive every year to feed on plankton. Unfortunately, there are no manta rays all year round, but only from May to November. Although it was the end of April, some manta rays had already arrived in the bay, but the day I snorkeled in that area, I didn't see one. On the other hand, however, for the first time in my life, I saw a small reef shark and upon returning some dolphins accompanied us for a short distance.

Have lunch on a desert island

Have an exclusiveuninhabited island or a tongue of sand was an unexpected surprise. I thought I would find other boats with other tourists, but that deserted corner was just for us guests of the guesthouse, maximum 10 people. The captain manages to bring the dhone almost to the shore and descending from the ladder, continue in the shallow water until you reach the beach. Here the Maldivian boys set up a tent to shelter from the scorching sun and in a short time lunch is served! I still remember the sense of freedom and the happiness of eating with my feet in the sand in front of a postcard sea: nothing else is needed.

Bolentino fishing in the Maldives

Another very special activity, weather permitting, is an evening of bolentino fishing. It starts just before sunset and returns when it is now dark. The equipment is very simple. There is only one fishing line with the bait which is prepared by Maldivian boys. He throws himself into the sea and expects some fish to bite.
