Low cost eating in Siena: Due Archi

Low cost eating in Siena: Due Archi

Eat well and at a good price a Siena it's not really easy. It happened to me more than once to order tagliari, but also simple sandwiches and to spend a fortune. The area around the Duomo and Piazza del Campo is in fact scattered with restaurants and tourist-catching drugstores: it is true that in some the quality of the products is safeguarded. However, if you have already visited the city, ate "Tuscan style" and do not want to pay high bills, the restaurant pizzeria Two Arches it's what's right for you.

We discovered it by chance, in an area I didn't know. For the first time in fact I parked near Porta San Marco (parking is free on holidays, but beware of the many places reserved for residents) and crossed the Contrada della Chiocciola on the walk towards the center itself. The narrow streets are characteristic and the chapel where the horse of the district is blessed is even more so, before participating in the Palio. In the neighborhood there is also the University and in the surrounding area there are several restaurants with low prices.

We were attracted by Due Archi, a small place where two ancient arches dominate in the middle of the room. On the walls, images of Siena in black and white, coats of arms of the districts, portraits of horses. All in Sienese style, in fact. The red bricks made the atmosphere welcoming and slowly the tables were filled with tourists, but also with locals. The menu especially included dishes linked to local tradition and for this reason, we could not fail to order a plate of mixed appetizers and a portion of pici all'aglione; we also had a plate of radicchio ravioli. The meats weren't exactly the best, but the pici were very tasty.

The first were really abundant and in hindsight, you could even share a plate. During the dinner, people never stopped coming and going take takeaway pizza: that doesn't have to be bad either! Despite being full, the service was fast and the account more than honest: about 30 euros for two. There is also a good option: the 12 euro tourist menu, which includes a full meal, from starter to dessert, and which should only be provided for lunch. A nice little place, where to eat well with an eye on your wallet.
