Who said that in Naples you only eat pizza? Here is the review of an excellent restaurant, La Scottona, where you can eat meat and chips at will.
The first time I visited Naples I tried two pizzerias and about a hundred thousand different sfogliatelle. I wanted to eat whatever was most typical in Campania, buffalo mozzarella included. My second time in Naples I decided to try something different instead. I thought, is it possible that in Neapolitans they only go to eat pizza when they go out for dinner or lunch? Obviously not.
So, recommended by two friends from Naples, I went to The Scottona. There were four of us at that table for lunch and nothing was missing, from meat to pizza - yes for appetizer, to Belgian beer, to chips and desserts (phenomenal!).
Il restaurant La Scottona has recently been open, for about a year, but it has already attracted a lot of attention in the city, especially for the quality of the meat. The restaurant has two large rooms, I really like the colors of the furniture and the kitchen, which is located between the two rooms, is passing through and everyone can see how you work in here.
We started with one Pizza margherita, classic in Naples, waiting for our fourth friend and then we headed to the actual order. The dishes as seen in the photo they are huge, each meat is included as a side dish and finishing it is a challenge because the courses are very abundant. Personally, if you want to get to dessert, I recommend you eat slowly even though I know it's hard why cooking is perfect and the flavor is amazing.
The meat is taken from a trusted butcher, which is among other things owned by one of the partners and who is supplied by a breeding in the Marche… Since I'm from the Marche region, they couldn't tell me what better!
In addition to the meat the fresh chips they are absolutely worth tasting. Thin fries, crispy and hot. As for the beers instead, we preferred some Belgian beers, but La Scottona also offers various local and Italian wines.
For dessert we made two orders, and then we divided them in four because we were very full, one sweet pistachio and meringue and a dessert perhaps much more caloric, a kind of fried dough with Nutella - I let you imagine the goodness.
La Scottona is located in Gianturco district of Naples, behind the station. Getting there on foot is not very recommended, better by your own means of transport if you have one or by bus. The venue I recently saw that has great reviews on TripAdvisor, and it is even 15th out of almost 2000 restaurants of Naples. For a club that lost only a year ago, I would say that it is excellent, and that the advice that the two friends have given me is more than valid.
After a lunch like this we went walking all afternoon, to see Piazza del Plebiscito and the splendid sunset over the sea. A perfect end to a day with friends in Naples.
