Karpathos, what to do and which beaches to visit

Karpathos in Greece, the most beautiful beaches where you can go sunbathing on one of the lesser-known islands and less known to mass tourism, how to get there and why to make your low cost holiday here.

Karpathos (or Karpathos) is the second largest island of the Dodecanese, it is located on the sea route that connects the island of Crete to Rhodes, in Greece.

Karpathos, what to do and which beaches to visit

The wind that blows all over the island has made it a very popular destination coveted by surfers (especially in the southern part) that come here from all over the world, both for the presence of this breeze and for the beauty of the beaches. It is the latter that characterize Karpathos.

Pigadia

Pigadia is the capital of the island and to reach it are enough only 20 minutes from the airport. Its sandy bay of almost 3km is home to many hotels but despite this the beach has areas equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds but also pristine areas for a more peaceful and reserved approach. Another plus is the fact that the city comes alive in the evening, thanks to the presence of numerous restaurants and clubs along the center and the port (this atmosphere makes Pigadia really nice, especially if you want to dine by the sea). Almost all the places that you will find in this area are not too expensive, let's say within everyone's reach, and with an excellent quality-price ratio.

Achata

Achata is personally the most beautiful beach on the island, characterized by acrystal clear waterto (no, I'm not kidding, really transparent) and from rich vegetation which protects it from the eyes of many tourists. It also offers a good service of umbrellas and sunbeds and there is a tavern that produces light lunches to lick your lips.

Kyra Panaghia

Kyra Panaghia it is definitely the beach most famous and photographed of the island, behind which there is a very small village with some landlords and taverns (some also overlooking the sea). The beach is very nice and alternates umbrellas with free areas; the rocks that surround it invite to snorkelling which is rewarded by the large presence of small fish regardless of your presence.
Apella is just north of Pigadia and allows you to discover the wildest aspect of Karpathos, among pine forests and overhangs. The beach has the fine sand and this too has areas with umbrellas but also free areas. Here there is a tavern with the most panoramic terrace on the island with a truly breathtaking view.

Karpathos, what to do and which beaches to visit

All in all, if you want to have a holiday full of sun and absolute relaxation, then I highly recommend Karpathos. The beaches, in addition to those that I have recommended most of all, are really all very beautiful and special; in addition, the presence of the constant breeze, the sun does not feel exaggerated and you can easily get a tan without suffering too much. Furthermore, the variety of scenarios that can be visited on the island make it unique and also little known to tourism (for the moment better that way) than the other Greek islands.

Karphatos is easily accessible, being equipped with a small airport, is connected once a day with Athens airport. Clearly you can reach the island even by ferry, about 500 km from Athens. The villages scattered throughout the island are definitely worth a visit, especially because they are in classic Greek style. There are also some monasteries and old churches mainly on some remote summit, but with a car (which you can easily rent in almost the whole island at a not excessive cost) you can easily reach all these places.

I just give you one last piece of advice: take a day off and plan a visit to the city of Olympos. I'm not kidding you, it's really on the island and there is no need for special invitations from Zeus or who knows who. I will not tell you anything about this city because it left me speechless, I just tell you that you will be thrilled by the beauty of this place.
(Many touristic guides they will tell you that the roads are ugly and it is better to take the boats organized by them. Mistake: the roads can be traveled easily with any car you rent on the island, don't worry)

In conclusion, whether you want to take a holiday with the respective boyfriend / girlfriend or want to have a nice family holiday, Karpathos is really a very valid destination. It knows how to please both the most demanding but also those who like adventure.
