Jugendherberge Prora, hostel in the Baltic Sea

Prora, one of the most amazing places I've ever seen that is located in Rügen it is formed by a large bay on the east coast, protected and made in a crescent shape, with a beautiful sandy beach behind which there is a strip of dunes covered by vegetation. Beyond the vegetation stands a building, parallel to the line of the sea, a huge construction that resembles a marine colony as they are still found on our coasts.

The creator was Hitler in person who had this huge condominium built by the sea for the German people, a building 4,5 kilometers long, but which must have been much larger, built between 1935 and 1939. It was the beginning of the war that interrupted this delirium building, which incredibly is still there, not destroyed and indeed used by the socialist GDR as a barracks.

I assure you that seeing this ghost speaking of the past so eloquently is impressive. Prora beach is really beautiful and if the weather is mild you can enjoy sea life. For some time, with great controversy, a small part of the Seebad or colony has been cleaned up and converted into a youth hostel. The locality is Binz, and thehostel it has all the characteristics of all the hostels in the world, were it not for its very particular history.

It is open all year round, welcoming young people, families, single travelers: there are rooms with 2, 4, 6 beds. B&B prices from 25,50 euros to 36,20 euros, depending on age and also on the season.
