Halkidiki Peninsula: 5 tips for Sithonia

Here are five tips for those wishing to visit Sithonia:

1. The beach of Toroni

Since I'm an alternative traveler, I'm talking about one uncrowded beach but very beautiful which is located in the southern tip of the peninsula. It offers a crystal clear and calm sea, grainy sand, few people even in high season (usually families or couples) and the Toroni village immediately behind, where you can find a delicious pastry shop, cafes, taverns, bars and of course hotels where to stay. It is not a beach marked as a "must do" precisely because it is reserved for those who love the sea without nightlife, slow life and silence.

2. Islet of Diaporos

Diaporos is the typical Caribbean-style island that any traveler would like to see. It is a small patch of land and is part of a set of other smaller islands that form an archipelago called Vourvourounissa. Trips depart from the town of Vourvourou, simply by renting a boat. The stretch of sea that characterizes this natural jewel is ideal for snorkelers.

3. Sarti, a fishing village

This village will remain in your heart. It is a piece of Authentic Greece and over the centuries it has experienced the most disparate vicissitudes. It takes its name from King Sartio and in a certain period it was left without inhabitants due to the invasion of pirates. In 1922 refugees from Asia Minor found a place to live in Sarti. A picturesque fishing village that nowadays has turned into a place that hosts tourists from all over Europe (especially from Eastern Europe) and which also attracts a lot because its beach has held the Blue Flag thanks to the cleanest sand and water.

4. Local products: Tsipouro

Il local brandy, created right in the Halkidiki Peninsula, it's a product to try! It is made up of 45% alcohol and the residues of distilled grapes. The fragrance of anise is inevitable and recalls the flavor of the most famous Ouzo. Macedonian anise has always been used as a natural sweetener. A native Greek always has a bottle of Tsipouro at home !!!

5. Local products: Honey

Another noteworthy natural product is honey. Aristotle already praised its qualities, 2300 years ago. On the surrounding mountains Sithonia, there are many beehives and the production of honey is equal to that of olive oil. Many shops directly on the road will invite you to taste this delicious product and so rich in virtues.

I hope with these little "samples" to have enticed you to book a holiday here. There is not much Italian tourism, it may be that this area is less known than more famous Greek places, but the beauty is just that: savor the genuineness and hospitality of Sithonia which has remained original and authentic at the expense of mass tourism.
