Frankfurt, 5 unusual things to see

Frankfurt, 5 unusual things to see

When I travel I like to try to visit cities as the locals live them, avoiding all the classic activities planned for tourists. Occasionally, however, there are interesting initiatives that are worth trying, even if at first impression they seem like tourist proposals. I have found some low cost in Frankfurt, for a truly original city tour!

The tram eat & drink

THEEbbelwei-Expreß is a curious colored tram that runs all over the city on weekends and holidays. On board it is served Apple juice or the typical Frankfurt drink, Apfelwein, a wine based on apple cider, accompanied by background music and tasty pretzels. In an hour the historic tram passes close to many attractions, and is a different way to visit the city while also trying the local specialty. The ticket costs 8€ and includes a bottle of apple juice or Apfelwein and a bag of pretzels.

The hidden gardens

Green is not lacking in Frankfurt! The historic center is surrounded by a green belt to be covered on foot or by bicycle, and in the north there are several parks where you can relax or play ball. In the west, the bel Palm Garden (palm garden) contains many species of exotic plants and is opened from 9 to 18; admission costs € 7. But scattered around the city there are many other small wonderful oases, such as the Chinese garden inside the Bethmannpark, not far from the historic center, or the Korean one enclosed in the Grüneburgpark.

The view from the Main Tower

Lo Frankfurt skyline it's unique, but the view of the city from above is also breathtaking! Despite being only the fourth tallest building, the Main Tower rises to first place in terms of accessibility: at 200 meters high it is, in fact, the Frankfurt skyscraper with the highest viewing platform open to the public. Don't worry, there is a very fast lift that will take you to the hotel in a few seconds 54 floor, from which you can admire all the surroundings.

A visit to the covered market

Well hidden among the streets of the center is the kleine Markthalle, the covered market in Frankfurt that contains a unique mix of cultures and flavors. The various ethnic groups of the city are well represented in these two floors, where they can be tasted and purchased German wines, Italian cheeses, Arabian spices and vegetables and fruit directly from the farmers. The market is located between the town hall square, the Römerberg, and the Konstablerwache, and is open Monday to Friday from 8 to 18, while on Saturdays from 8 to 16.

A little shopping on the Zeil

There is no visit to Frankfurt that does not include a stroll on the shopping street par excellence: it Sail. The 1,2 km long tree-lined boulevard connects Hauptwache square to Konstablerwache and offers shopping possibilities for all tastes and budgets.
