La Fairy Tale Night is the event that most reminds me of childhood and that every year makes me feel like a little girl again. It takes place in Riva del Garda, in the province of Trento, immersed in a breathtaking landscape, generally every year in the last week of August.
Fairy Tale Night, an ancient tradition
It is a tradition carried on for over 60 years, the first annual editions of the event date back to the 50s. The first official Fairy Tale Night dates back to 13 September 1950. In truth it seems that this event has even more distant origins, which date this show back to the nineteenth century, where decorated boats, lights on city windows, parades and many shows are remembered. .
It might seem like an event only for children, but it has always attracted and entertained adults almost more.
Each edition is dedicated to a specific fairy tale, famous and traditional tales and fairy tales are chosen every year that have inspired many legends, stories and films.
Every year this local tourist event invariably closes the summer, coloring and lighting up the city in all its lightheartedness. The people involved in the organization of this event are many, including actors, artists, circus performers, volunteers and participants. In the last edition there were over 100 volunteers and a total of over 85.000 visitors.
The Notte di Fiaba lasts about five days and includes a rich program of events where the historic center of Riva del Garda will be transformed as if by magic into a seabed full of sets, costumes and shows.
Activities for children
As for some specific activities for children, such as the "paths in the fairy tale", I recommend that you inquire on the event website because it is advisable to book, as some things have a maximum of participants. Most of the activities are absolutely free but some creative workshops for children require a small contribution.
But fear not, these are not just shows and activities for children, the event also includes a full program of appointments for the older ones between concerts, exhibitions, dance shows, beautiful craft and vintage markets, with great space obviously for food, local gastronomy and sweets of all kinds.
The fireworks show
This week of events generally ends on Saturday with the famous fireworks display that takes place right on the waters of Lake Garda at 22.00 pm.
These famous fireworks, the most spectacular of Garda, illuminate the high lake for almost forty minutes and have always been the most awaited moment of the Fairy Tale Night. It is over 2.500 kg of pyrotechnic artifices, a unique spectacle of its kind, duration and setting. And, if you have never seen them from these areas, then you cannot imagine the rumble that fires cause thanks to the echo of the mountains of the lower Trentino that frame Riva del Garda. You will be enchanted, I promise you.
Then of course I'm biased and I love my lake so I suggest you take the opportunity to spend a few pleasant days in complete relaxation. In any case, it is advisable to book, because the Fairy Tale Night tends to coincide with the moment of maximum filling of hotels, b & b, apartments, etc. And don't miss a nice swim in the clear waters of the lake.
