Empire State Building: history and schedules

THEEmpire State Building with its 443 meters (including the antenna) it is the second largest skyscraper in New York, after the Freedom Tower, and the third tallest building in the world.

The Empire State Building is located on 5th Avenue, one of the most famous shopping streets in New York, between 33th and 34th streets. The building is one of the symbolic tourist attractions and the undisputed protagonist of the New York skyline. Although there are 120 floors, the visit is allowed up to the 86th floor where the observatory is located.

Prices and tickets
Tickets can be purchased online on the official website or directly within the Empire. Wherever you buy them, prices remain the same:

  • $ 27 for adults
  • $ 24 for seniors (62+)
  • $ 21 for children aged 6 to 12

The best way to visit the Empire State Building low cost is to buy the New York City Pass which allows you to receive 42% discount on the ticket price.

Watch out for scams

This is the most important tip since it happened to me personally. If you decide to buy tickets for the Empire State Building directly at the entrance, buy them inside the building, where the cashiers are and not from the sales agents outside the Empire. These people are placed (in the sense of the word) outside, (dressed to perfection) and with numerous cards in their hands for the visit. Tickets are authentic and valid for entry but the price is "slightly" different, ie they ask you for $ 40 per person. These are scams that tourists are unfortunately victims of every day.

Working Time

The Empire State Building is open every day of the year from 8:00 to 2:00 at night (the last lift goes up at 01:15). Seeing the panorama of New York from the 86th floor of the Empire is an incredible and unforgettable emotion and despite the height you can see everything in detail, a spectacle!
It is definitely one of the photographic points most important in New York.

Il advice is not to go up before 10 in the morning because, even if the day "from below" may seem sunny, up in the early hours of the morning there is always a bit of mist and fog and you may not be able to have the 'entire view of Manhattan. One of the moments of the day when it is worth going up to the Empire State Building is in the evening to immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of New York totally illuminated!

Visit

Before going up to the 86th, the visit includes some films on the history of the Empire, also remembering it during the famous King Kong film. After immersing yourself in the history of the Empire you can go up on the elevators and in a few minutes, without you being able to notice it, you will be up there, on the top to admire all the wonders of New York from above. The most exciting scenario is to see Central Park among the skyscrapers but I can't reveal all the surprises, you have to go there.
