Coralejo, 6 things to do in Fuerteventura

Coralejo, 6 things to do in Fuerteventura

Something more relaxing comes to mind than a day at the Canaries, between sun, beach, waves, good food and breathtaking landscapes?
Here are the inevitable stops for one perfect day, and low cost, in Coralejo, a picturesque village northeast of Fuerteventura.

    1) Relaxed wake up call when the sun comes in from the window of your room: I recommend the Surf House Beach Bums, which, located on the pleasant hill of Villaverde, a few kilometers from Coralejo, offers accommodation for all budgets, from the luxurious design villa, to the more basic, but always very stylish, surfer's apartment. It is especially convenient if you are in a group and can thus divide the shopping, but it is really worth it: swimming pool, barbecue, and the deserted lava land all around as far as the eye can see, with its relaxing silence.

    2) Pastelo breakfast: the young and disheveled manager offers a truly delicious selection of cakes, brioches, tortillas and other typical homemade dishes, with coffee, cappuccino or quality juices. The relaxed atmosphere of the lava gravel courtyard with its straw umbrellas will inevitably extend the pleasure of breakfast!

    3) Let's go to the plaja! A must see Flag Beach, a very long and spacious strip of light and very fine sand, often moved by the wind, which forms several dunes.
Here you can indulge in activities for all tastes: there are surf, kitesurf and windsurf schools where you can rent equipment or book lessons for one or more days at this famous spot. Many agencies organize fun and inexpensive bike and quad bike excursions in the volcanic and desert landscapes. Well… impossible to get bored!

    4) Lunch strictly based on classic Puntillas, the small squid, very fresh and soft, accompanied by a cold beer. There are many places to taste them, but the original is only one: the La Lonja Bar, the typical bar of the port, really good, indeed a little rustic, but with the best and freshest fish in the country. A truly original experience!

    5) In the afternoon you can opt for a trip to the nearby Lanzarote, for which ferries depart from the port every 45 minutes at not too high prices.
Some agencies organize mini cruises to Lobos, the tiny island in front of Coralejo, really interesting for its protected fauna, the salt lake and the La Caldera volcano.

    6) And for dinner, in the alleys in front of the port, a stop at the typical El Sombrero restaurant, known for its delicious meat, which takes its name from a typical dish they prepare for you: the “Sombrero” is a cone-shaped plate that is brought hot directly to your table. The slices of meat are arranged there and are tasted very hot, together with many typical sauces.

And after dinner, walking around the village, if you are lucky you can drink some cocktails while attending an exciting flamenco show… lo mejor! Six reasons are not enough for you and you would like to find more? Go to Expedia to find a cheap flight!
