Christmas markets in Reggio Emilia

Despite not having an established tradition in Christmas events, Reggio Emilia this year proposes a respectable program and if you happen to pass by these parts something to do you will find it safe. Meanwhile, the official name chosen for 2010: More Christmas. More party. More Reggio.

Two are the Christmas trees places in the city, one in Piazza Prampolini and one in Piazza Fontanesi, called Albero del Contadino. The classics Christmas markets will be set up right in Prampolini Square (the main square, near the Duomo and the Municipality) on Sunday 19 December.

But don't worry… more are planned original markets like that of Val di Non, also in piazza Prampolini; Christmas in San Pietro, throughout the month of December, with a series of stands and stalls under the arcades in Via San Girolamo and in the Piazzale Tricolore area and last but not least the Christmas Park in piazza Papa Giovanni Paolo II scheduled from 14 to 24 December.

More 2 initiatives very original and noteworthy are:

    - The Luminary, a series of poetic light installations (made by young artists), which will replace the traditional lights in the most important squares of the city; the first lighting is set for 17 December in Piazza Prampolini.

    - Ant Xmas, which on 21 and 23 December will try to turn Piazza Prampolini and the buildings in the historic center into a series of stages, thanks to video animations and live soundtracks.

To conclude, let's not forget the Art exhibitions - and some go until the end of January 2011 - and concerts scattered throughout the city.
