Christmas is the best time to visit these areas, for the atmosphere that you breathe, because here the Christmas it is exactly as we have always imagined it: cold, with a nice chocolate in hand to warm us, with many stalls to see and buy in and maybe even with a sprinkle of snow on the ground or on the roofs of the houses. So, why not visit Valpusteria and Brunico specifically in the period between the end of November and the end of December when the stalls are in full swing and we too have to buy Christmas presents and gifts?

Our bowl lunch of bread with goulash and mulled wine was highly appreciated, especially because it significantly raised the body temperature. In Brunico, as in the other places in these areas, in fact, in November and December it is very cold, compared to many other warmer places in Italy, if I think of Sicily for example, I immediately have to take off my coat.
In Brunico, the ideal is to enjoy one walk within the walls: a long shopping street for Christmas and not, but where you can certainly stock up on gifts and presents to bring to loved ones or simply decorations for your home. In addition to the Christmas houses with sweets and decorations, there is no shortage of sports and food shops, but it is above all the giant stationers and bookstores that offer special ideas for Christmas. Here the shops are themselves decorated for the party and just a nice walk gives a perfect idea of how even those who live in Brunico and in South Tyrol in general really feel the spirit of Christmas. Here it is also pleasant to walk, look, admire the decorations and yes, also take some nice souvenir photos.
The Brunico Christmas Market generally opens at the end of November, and can be visited on the Epiphany. If you manage to go there by Christmas I recommend you drop by Austria, in Lienz, which is only an hour away by car. The Austrian stalls are much more characteristic and the large town hall transformed into an advent calendar for the occasion is truly impactful and will leave you breathless.
