Christmas holidays in Narni in Umbria

A good idea for the Christmas period and for the New Year is to do a trip to Umbria, a region that during the winter reserves a warm welcome to travelers thanks to many solutions for a comfortable stay and engaging events to attend.

I collected some advice on a destination cloaked in legend and full of stories to tell, the medieval Narni.

What to see in the heart of Umbria
Deciding to stay in Narni is a good move for next Christmas, as a review of events called “Christmas in Narni” is underway and because in this village there is really a lot to visit.

First of all I remember that the ancient Latin name of the city is Narnia, a name that inspired the writer CS Lewis in the creation of the saga The Chronicles of Narnia, in which the author imagines a world where animals have the ability to speak, magic is widespread among men and Good in constant struggle against Evil.
A lucky series of films was also taken from the novels, but to experience a fairy atmosphere it is enough to take a walk in the historic center, I assure you that it is much better than any set.

To have a try visit the Rocca Albornoz which today is a Medieval Park, here it is possible to take a journey through time and discover how people lived in the past, accompanied by the minstrels, knights and falconers who animate the park. You can experience the thrill of archery and taste typical medieval-style dishes, that is, menus specially prepared according to local gastronomic traditions.

If you like nativity scenes there is a nice exhibition until 6 January at Borgo Itieli: Artistic nativity scenes, an original collection whose centerpiece is a large animated nativity scene.

Among the upcoming events, the Christmas Concert December 25th at 18:00 a free entry: gospel music to celebrate the holiday with loved ones.
On 1 January 2013, to start the new year in the best possible way, a concert is scheduled in Narni by City of Narni Philharmonic at the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Manini, also free, ideal for a holiday full of emotions and colors.

    Discover the Narni undergrounds
If you like guided tours in normally inaccessible places, Narni Underground is what is right for you. The association organizes itineraries in the undergrounds of the city, starting from the convent complex of San Domenico where you can admire the oldest frescoes in the city.

Thanks to the archaeological excavations, a 25th century crypt was discovered, one of the treasures to see during the visit, which I recommend to book. Attention because on December XNUMXth the association based in the Giardini di San Bernardo will be closed.

To take advantage of these events and spend relaxing holidays I suggest staying in a historic residence in Narni, near the historic center and in harmony with the castles, the fortress and the other remains of the Middle Ages that survive in this romantic village.
