Casa Rocca Piccola in Malta

    Casa Rocca Piccola in Malta

Casa Rocca Piccola it is found at Malta and precisely in Valletta. The beauty of this place is its peculiarity and its internal garden, a rarity for the houses of Malta. For an order of the Knights of Malta in fact, no house could have a internal garden where to keep the plants. There was so little water in Malta that it was inadmissible for houses to keep plants which then had to be looked after, even with water. In fact, the internal gardens of the houses in Malta are not there, at least in most of the houses. If you will notice well, in fact, currently the houses have all the plants outside the doors, because they do not give up on greenery, but inside it is really impossible to keep them both due to the little light and because as we have just said, there are no internal gardens.

Casa Rocca Piccola is one of the very few houses that have this instead courtyard. The house is also one of the few that has remained unchanged since the Order of the Knights was on the island, so much so that today it has been transformed into a house museum. I recommend that you visit this place first of all to get an idea of how people lived in the time of the Knights of Malta, but also to admire a truly unique house of its kind, a house of the past.

Inside Casa Rocca Piccola there is a familiar atmosphere. Composed by more than 50 rooms, 12 of which are open to the public and can be visited and at the same time still used by De Piro family, here you can browse entire collections of crockery, silver and paintings, which make this visit even more precious.

The palace dates back to the XNUMXth century and the private residence is exactly from 1580. Originally owned by an admiral of a Noble family which belonged to the Order of the Knights of Malta, is currently inhabited by the Marquis Nicholas De Piro.

Casa Rocca Piccola you can visit it independently with an English guide, I instead visited it with a real guide who explained each room to me in detail. He explained to me the origin of many objects found in the house, such as the collection of lace and fans. If you want more information, you can still go to the official website of Casa Rocca Piccola or, alternatively, go directly to the residence which, as mentioned, is located in Valletta.

Casa Rocca Piccola is located in 74 Republic Street, in the heart of Valletta, the capital of Malta. The house is open to the public every day from 10 to 16, except Sundays and public holidays. The cost of the ticket is 9 euro for adults and 5 euros for students. On the other hand, children and teenagers under 14 enter for free.

A curiosity: in the house or in the garden you will find the beautiful and colorful parrot of the family. My advice is obviously not to bother him and not to take too many pictures, even if it will be difficult, it is really beautiful. If you find him in his little house, be careful not to get scared, when he speaks he makes himself feel very loud :)
