case to read this article, to discover a magical city in the south of the peninsula
Iberian, which will amaze you thanks to the many attractions it offers to tourists.
Cartagena, a city strongly linked to the sea thanks to the strategic position of its port overlooking the Mediterranean, has been conquered and inhabited by many cultures that have left historical artifacts of prestigious artistic and architectural value.

This city deserves a visit at least once in a lifetime: themodernist architecture combined with neoclassical style of some buildings, immediately draw the tourist into an elegant and refined atmosphere.

During my stay in Murcia I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful city and I am
happy to share what I admired with you. I reached the city by car and discovered the existence of a very convenient and cheap one underground parking near the port, a suggestive place to start the visit of the city.

Reached the port, I had the pleasure of admiring the long avenue of palm trees located parallel to the suggestive Muralla del Mar, a wall that Charles III had built to defend the city. I continued the journey finding myself in front of two wonderful sculptures: El Zulo, sculpture 5 meters high and 2 tons heavy, made in memory of the victims of a terrorist attack; Cola de Ballena also 5 meters high, it is a sculpture 8 meters wide and weighs a total of 24 tons (the part visible to the eye corresponds to 2 tons while the rest is underwater).

The play of colors and the contrast created by admiring the blue of the sea and the colors of the sculptures is truly fantastic. Strolling I found myself, amazed, in front of the first submarine in history, built by Isaac Peral in 1888; is located inside the Naval de Cartagena Museum and you can also admire it from the outside as I did, given the glass wall. Cartagena is filled with palm parks very tall that made me feel particularly small in stature.

Il Old Town welcomes the town hall, a beautiful modernist style building from which I was immediately conquered thanks to the pure white color. It is huge and deserves a guided tour; inside it is in fact provided, for those wishing to visit it, a guided tour in every room of the building accompanied by a Hostess or a Stewart, who impeccably explain every historical event in the city and all the dynasties that have inhabited Cartagena.

The interior of the municipality is adorned with red carpets and elegant white stairways; paintings embellish the walls. The cost of the guided tour is really cheap, I was thrilled. Speaking Spanish, I didn't bother to check if Hostess and Stewart spoke Italian, but they will certainly speak English as Cartagena is a very touristic city. Continuing the path, on the left you reach the cathedral, the oldest church in the city: the the Catedral de Santa MarĂa La Vieja, which is the main place of worship in the city. A jewel of Roman architecture is the XNUMXst century BC amphitheater in the Plaza Condesa de Peralta, which attracts thousands of tourists thanks to the beauty of the finds that can be admired while observing it.

Another absolutely worthy attraction is the Main Street: It is the street richest in modernist architecture; it is not a banal alley full of souvenir shops, but rather
it hosts bars and restaurants where tourists can delight in cheap “tapas”, clothing shops and yes, even souvenir shops at great prices. I bought myself a beautiful frame in the shape of a rudder, white and blue, a very original ornament. This street, which is the main street of the city, even hosts modernist-style hotels. I recommend continuing the path
tourist in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento y de los HĂ©roes de Cavite: reaching it you can admire the marble heads (about one meter high) present in the garden and two important monuments, namely "Marinero de Reemplazo" and "Monumento a los HĂ©roes de Cavite", built
following the Spain-USA war of 1898. In this square there is also the Museum of the amphitheater
Roman. Overlooking the square is the building of the "Gobierno militar" which I only admired
    from the outside.

Lunch time, finally! Are you wondering where I went? Will I have eaten the tapas in calle mayor? No friends, I was pleasantly accompanied to a good restaurant: El restaurante Techos Bajos it has an ancient air, it looks like a small restaurant for regulars. To reach it we walked the long avenue framed by palm trees. Wonderful. There's a
convenient parking outside the restaurant for those wishing to reach it by car. I went in for
taste the excellent ones Spanish mejillones (mussels) and delight the fish and the typical dessert of the area.

Since there were four of us, we started with a seafood appetizer based on octopus, cuttlefish and shrimps, then we ordered four portions of mixed fried food, in which there were also very tasty fresh fish! We ordered the mussels and clamand marinara accompanied by a delicious seafood salad and to finish the typical dessert rice pudding or rice with milk, from the name it sounds a bit strange to us Italians but I assure you that it is really delicious! It deserves a taste.
