Brno: a pearl in Moravia

    Brno: a pearl in Moravia

Perhaps you know this city mainly for the homonymous circuit on which Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa whiz during the World Championship. But Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic after Prague, it also offers much more.

La Czech Republic it is often not considered an attractive destination because it is considered too similar to the other countries that were part of the communist bloc, with all the pros and cons that derive from this situation. Nothing more false. The Czech Republic is a nation much more similar to those of Western Europe than to those of Eastern Europe. It is a relatively wealthy country, with low poverty rates, a network of healthy small and medium-sized enterprises and a booming tourism sector. The legislation in force in the country is also, in many ways, at the forefront. To name but one, the Czech Republic was the first ex-communist nation to legalize the cannabis for therapeutic use, and has very liberal legislation on the subject: in the country it is absolutely legal to possess marijuana up to fifteen grams, just as it is legal to grow hemp seeds for personal use.

Huge city historical and cultural value, located in the southern part of Moravia, Brno is a perfect destination both for young people looking for adventure and fun and for adult couples who want to spend a few days among the artistic and architectural beauties that the city is able to offer. All this, strange but true, for an expense that almost never becomes excessive.
So let's see where to go and how to move to spend a few days in this beautiful city without spending a fortune.

First of all, the flight: planes that from the major European airports take you directly to Brno - Tuřany airport there is no shortage, and the convenience of taking one rather than another depends on the carrier you are best with and the period in which you decide to leave. It is not compulsory to go directly to Brno airport, but you can also go to for example Prague or Vienna and then reach your destination through a beautiful scenic ride by train or bus, whose tickets do not cost much. Indeed, here are two tips for spending little money every time you take the train in the Czech Republic: first, you can take advantage of the discounts for cumulative tickets, which can be bought when at least two people decide to take the train together, or buy round trip tickets within twenty-four hours; second, you can use the Kilometrická Banka, or a prepaid card that costs two thousand crowns (just under 80 euros) and allows you to travel for two thousand kilometers.

Once in Brno you will have a wide choice of accommodation options: from five-star hotels to hostels. Again, it all depends on how much you want to spend. If, as we think, you don't want to spend a lot, but you don't want to find yourself in a dirty and gloomy place for this, we recommend some comfortable and well-kept hostels: there is, for example, the Tauferovy Koleje, which costs around 17 euros per night . Or it Ubytovna Brno, which costs 14 euros per night, or you can book at Ruta 80 Hostel, which offers you a bed in exchange for 12 euros. If you are willing to spend a little more on accommodation you can go to hotels, such as the Penzion na Dvorakove, a three-star hotel costing about fifty euros per person per night, or the four-star Grandhotel Brno. about sixty euros per night for every single tourist.

Of places from visit, in Brno, there are many: to give just a few examples, there are the aforementioned circuit (maybe you want to go there just when the Grand Prix is scheduled), the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, but also the famous Spielberg fortress.
In the evening you can go for dinner at Borgo Agnese, which offers you excellent Mediterranean cuisine at prices ranging from 9 to 46 euros. Or to the Sunset Restaurant, where you can order grilled meat, Mediterranean or Czech cuisine and much more, for between 4 and 13 euros. After you can go and have a drink at Sombrero, Caribic, or Mandarin, which are fun and youthful places where you can have a good time without spending a fortune.

In short, in Brno, and in general throughout the Czech Republic, there are many economic but not poor solutions. Just go and find them.
