Bosa is located on the west coast of Sardinia, perhaps the least known and the wildest, but no less beautiful. More precisely to the northwest about an hour and a half from Alghero airport.

Driving through this area, the variety of landscapes you will find is incredible. Passing along the coast road (SP105 and SP49) in some places it doesn't even seem like the sea is that close, the roads are narrow and winding and you are surrounded by high rocky mountains. Coming from the E25, the road is straighter but also longer. Here you will pass through plateaus and the green valleys of Planargia, an area around Bosa famous for its food and wine and wine production.

Another good reason to visit this beautiful area is that Blue Guide 2016, created by Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club, which included Bosa among the 19 best locations in Italy, getting the 5 candles. Food and wine, culture, art and traditions, but also sea and wild nature. Here are all the ingredients for a wonderful vacation in the surroundings of Bosa.

The town of Bosa

Bosa has preserved the characteristics of the medieval village and is enclosed between the Malaspina castle upstream and the Temo river downstream. The oldest area, Sa Costa, is located on the slopes of the hill and is characterized by tall pastel-colored houses and narrow, steep streets. The more modern area is, on the other hand, lower down and reaches the coast and the seaside resort of Bosa Marina.

Bosa Marina

Taking the New Bridge over the river Temo you reach Bosa Marina from where you will find the harbor tower, also known as Torre dell'Isola Rossa: it is the most important Aragonese tower in the area.

Obviously Bosa Marina also attracts for its wide and extensive golden sandy beach. The sea is suitable for families because it is not immediately deep and is very calm. For those looking for comfort and total relaxation, this is the right place. The beach is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas and other services; there is no lack of bars, pizzerias, restaurants and typical stores.

Natural swimming pool Cane Malu

I have not been here personally, but I saw some pictures on the internet and fell in love. It is a natural pool carved by nature in white trachyte. At the first possible opportunity, I would like to go and see it with my own eyes, so in the meantime I asked around and here is how to get there. You have to park at the end of the boat ride (on the Sas Covas road) and then continue on foot along the low coastal path for about 15-20 minutes.

Beach compoltitu

This beach is a bit hidden and you have to make a little effort to reach it, but everything will be rewarded the moment you see it in front of you. It is approx. 5 km from Bosa (after S'Abba Druche) on the coastal road to Alghero. From the parking lot on the road you go down towards the coast, following a path in the Mediterranean scrub for 10-15 minutes. The small cove is surrounded by the cliff and is therefore protected from the wind. The beach has white sand and is surrounded by flat rocks. The sea is crystal clear and transparent, ideal for snorkeling. It is necessary to bring everything you need because there are no services here.

Malvasia Road

Malvasia is the best wine produced in the area around Bosa and has earned the DOC label. A dedicated itinerary starts from Bosa and reaches the other neighboring localities that produce this wine (Magomadas, Modolo, Flussio, Tinnura and Suni). The Malvasia road is an itinerary to discover the territory, the wineries, cellars and vineyards open to the public. For more information you can visit the site.

The murals of Tinnura

Just 10 km from Bosa there is a truly unmissable village: Tinnura. I passed through there by chance, due to a problem on the road. I am still happy about that blocked road, because it allowed me to visit this lost gem in the Planargia countryside. Most of the houses are painted entirely with murals mainly depicting ancient crafts and scenes of daily life. They are true works of art.

S. Caterina di Pittinuri, S'archittu and Torre del Pozzo

these three villages are located one after the other about forty minutes south of Bosa (follow the signs to Cuglieri). They are small villages with colorful houses where you can breathe tranquility, also because they are a bit out of the mass tourism even in August. Each village is right in front of picturesque bays protected by impressive white limestone cliffs. The sea is very calm and the seabed is shallow, so it is suitable for families.

Santa Caterina di Pittinuri: the beach is located in front of the inhabited center inside a natural inlet between Punta Cagaragas and the promontory of the Pittinuri tower. The rocky walls on the sides of the bay create very suggestive caves and small ravines.

S'Archittu: moving southward just one kilometer away is S'Archittu: the name is given by a small natural arch 15 meters high that was formed by marine and atmospheric action. The white limestone cliff is the absolute protagonist. Near the arch there is a small beach with easy access.

Torre del Pozo: is the small inhabited center that is located after S'Archittu. The name suggests the presence of a tower that is right on the promontory in front of the town: from here you have a beautiful view of the bay. There are two beaches, one on both sides of the tower and you can reach it with a short descent.
